Default Husband has cancer update

I think we are going to hear some good news finally. Two weeks ago they had
to cut the strength of his chemo because his white blood cell count was
dangerously low. Went in this week and white count was back up so he
received full strength. He managed to gain 3 pounds in the 2 week period.
The cancer markers in his blood started at 179 and was down to 119 when they
cut the strength 2 weeks ago. He goes for a scan this coming Wednesday and
the following Wednesday back to the Dr. and if chemo is helping will start
another 8 week run. The Dr. said she was very optimistic with the markers
falling like that. Just thought I would update everybody. Thanks for being
here.

Let us hope these improvements are indicative of how matters will develop.
Please excuse my clumsy language - trying to avoid giving any wrong
impressions.

Where are you? Sounds to me like you're in the US.

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00265850
A Phase III Trial of Irinotecan / 5-FU / Leucovorin or Oxaliplatin / 5-FU/
Leucovorin With Bevacizumab, or Cetuximab (C225), or With the Combination or
Bevacizumab and Cetuximab for Patients With Untreated Metastatic Adenocarcinoma
of the Colon or Rectum

Secondary Outcome Measures:
* Response (complete response and partial response)
* Progression-free survival
* Time to treatment failure
* Duration of tumor response
Total Enrollment: 2300

First found in his lungs, then a small tumor in colon, which is not blocking
anything.

I aked her the CEA level, but she did not know at the time she first posted.
Unknown if that's what she's referring to now.

The most important thing by far is that he's feeling better, and has put on
some weight.
I wouldn't get too focussed on CEA levels or scans.

FWIW, my CEA level indicated "no cancer" even before they removed a
large tumor from my colon. It may be a helpful marker in some cases,
but clearly doesn't tell the whole story. I *do* focus a bit on
scans, but maybe I shouldn't. One of the cocktails Gloria mentions
sounds like what I had (FOLFOX 6 w/Avastin). Whichever he's getting,
I hope he continues to improve.
