Now there's an idea. I never did learn to update Socks' blog. I'm not
sure if DVD format can go on a website (it plays on a TV), but Annie has
a copy of the DVD & I could ask. Some videos can be a form of CD for
computer play, but I don't know how to get from one format to another.
Maybe it's like Excel & csv or something. If anyone could, Annie could.
She has a painting class all day tomorrow, so I'll catch her later in the
weekend.
I have the speech written out. I really hope the speeches are over. I
can present technical stuff all day long, but Socks' stuff, especially
that video, is pretty emotional.
I taped Sock's 'sermon' with a camcorder & we got that on his website.
Dang, I wish I knew more about these things! I REALLY wish I could find
the segment I taped off the evening news of him flyfishing. He was so
sure they'd captured him making a great cast & it was of him getting
tangled up in the fishing line!
I'll let you know what Annie can do.

I love classical! Do you do sunset on the river during Memphis in May? Love
it.
Do you ever go hear bands in Memphis? Have you heard Gabby Jiohnson on radio
or at Peabody rooftop?
What instrument do you play?
We were fortunate at the hospital today because the tv in his room was on
the station for the game, and Don was able to enjoy that. We didn't know it
was on a local channel when we got there. I think every nurse and doctor was
either watching the game or listening to it. They would come in Don's room,
sneaking a peek at the score.
Our son who had a gig on the Gulf coast went to the game...I said this
already didn't I? He said he was a few rows behind the Tiger bench, so I
know he was excited.
Do you remember a Memphis player named Cheyenne Gibson? Our teenager was
named after him. He is a good friend of our family and has the most gentle
spirit, so we used his name. But that was 18 years ago so unless you're as
ancient as I am, you might never have heard of him.
Go Tigers!

Is there a website for your Socks? I'd love to hear his sermon.

No, you didn't miss it. I will see if Annie can post it to her blog & give
you the link if she can. I don't want to post it here as it contains plugs
for a non-profit. The non-profit wrote me a speech that I changed quite a
bit (at their urging) to make it more personal.

Yes, http://oriez.org/
Enter the regular website (last choice), go to blog in memu on left-hand
side, & there is a link to the video on his 7/5 entry, near the top.
That's 2005. I shot the video & the quality isn't so great, but I'm glad
to have it.
You will see his belief system was a little different than yours & Don's
(understatement).
The blog itself is a little confusing & he didn't put in the years. The
old stuff is bottom posted & then he switched to top-posting & never got
them all the same way. He started this in the early days of blogging,
before most of the sites came into being.

I've only been once. It was muddy, I had nothing to sit on and the beer
stench was too much! I gave up on that years ago.

> at Peabody rooftop?
I haven't done that in years (married 16 and he doesn't like that kind of music).
However we did go to a couple of the festivals downtown; he does like Cajun
and Zydeco. In my single days I used to go to the Thursday night parties on
the roof of the Peabody. Also a co-worker's husband played in the band
Rick <something> and the White Boys. Another co-worker invited me to
one of the rock clubs (can't remember the name; near the P&H Cafe) but
it was so loud I got a raging headache. My ears just can't take it. I like
jazz a lot and hear that on occasion, though it's a rare commodity in Memphis.
I used to go down to the old Daisy to hear jazz - I especially like Bela &
The Flecktones. So I guess you could say I do have an affinity for Funk.
> What instrument do you play?
I play piano, organ, harpsicord and viola.

Yeah! If you just have to be in a hospital the least they can let you do is
watch your team play.

I once sat in some overflow guest seating between Tom the Tiger's cage and one
of the goals. Perry was playing then; shortest guy on the team and he looked
huge. It's a wonder we didn't get creamed by one of the players we were so close.

Yes I do remember Cheyenne -- wasn't he the one with the best Jerri-curl
(not sure of the spelling on that!) I'm pretty old. I was a senior when
we played UCLA in the Final Four!

Yes, Cheyenne did have the curl. Did you ever notice what a sweet and gentle
spirit he had even on the basketball court?
He used to come out and talk to my students about not doing drugs...he was
just a good kid. I think Cheyenne is coaching at Craigmont now...I'll ask
Don to be sure, but it's a Memphis school...
How bout them Tigers this weekend!!! Our son went back to the game ... he's
always loved the Tigers. When I was in school at University of Memphis, I
was homeschooling Donnie, and while I was in class he stayed at the athletic
dorm with my nephew who played football, so that's when he became a real
Memphis Tiger...the players were all great with him and now some of them go
to Donnie's gigs...
Have you always lived in Memphis and if your ancient as you say you are, you
might remember my brother-in-law, John Wallace Wright who played football
when it was called Memphis State...he was also called "Cochese" (sp?) and
went from there to the Broncos...
Well, I hear school calling me. Gottoa go.
Ciao!
