This is Joe-46er's wife. I am not familiar with sending messages to
the cancer support group but I hope this gets to you.
Joe is failing. He is on 50 ml of dilaudid via a CADD pump, decadron
twice a day to compliment the pain med and .04 ml Haldol every 3 hours
24/7. If his agitation increases he can have another .02 ml Haldol
and/or Adavan. With so much meds on board his thinking and
coordination are expectedly altered a great deal so he can't
communicate with you via computer. He sleeps a lot, eats little but is
on an IV drip, per his request. We have family and friends staying
with us 24/7 now. The Hospice we are working with are great! I
believe the time is coming when he will need to sleep all the time
until his body gives up. He has told me he is ready and looks forward
to seeing his brother who died of cancer two years ago as well as many
friends and other family members. He looks forward to exploring the
galaxies and being with Jesus. When we talk about his death, I remind
him to keep my side of the bed warm and plan an itinerary to escort me
through the galaxies too. We just talked briefly yesterday about how
death should be a peaceful, beautiful experience and that seemed to
calm some of his anxiety at that time.
He has told me over and over how much he has enjoyed and appreciated
the feedback, support and opportunities to share on this network.
Thank you for being there for him/us.

Dear Sharon, I am so glad to hear any news of Joe. I hope his trip is easy
and timely. I can just imagine all I will hear from my parents. I bet I will
get chewed out, big time!
Take good care of our friend and be at peace now that he is not in any big
pain.
Keep us posted when you can, you did just fine.

Betsy

Sharon,

Thank you of thinking of us during this time. I know Joe believes in God and
Heaven ( I also believe in this) therefore I know he will be going to a
better place. Glad to hear you have the support and hospice is working for
you. It sounds like you and Joe had some time to enjoy your new home. Alex

Dear friends of Joe-46er;

Joe died on Thursday evening, September 20th surrounding by his loved
ones. His last few days were very tough but when the time came he
looked up to heaven with wide eyes, smiled and took his first breath
in heaven. Although his disease made his last few months of life hard
with very little quality, his death was beautiful and peaceful. I will
miss my wonderful husband of 38 years but I am so grateful that his
suffering is over.
Again thank you for your support and feedback for him, he loved you
all.

Dear Sharon,

I am saddened to read your post and to learn of the loss of Joe, but
thankful that his final journey was a peaceful one. May you one day find
peace too comforted knowing that his pain is finally over. Being a widow
myself I like to think that we never truly lose our loved ones, they remain
in our memories and in our hearts eternally.

Warm Hugs

Alayne

Joe was a big man around here; he endeared himself to us all.

Dear Sharon, I am so glad Joe's wait is over. This is such a difficult time
for you all. I know he is at peace and your's will come too. He will always
remain in my thoughts and you in my prayers.

Sharon,
Thank you so much for thinking of us & letting us know about Joe. He is
with my Socks now & I can imagine they have met on the other side. They
shared a love of mountain hiking. I have been thinking of Joe a lot lately
& had thought his time was likely near. His end of life sounds very similar
to what we experienced & the timing was similar as well. I am so glad his
passing was peaceful. And I am glad you were able to share the experience
with him.

Let me add my condolences. I mostly lurk rather than post but I have been
following his travails.

So very sorry for the loss.
