Default Just diagnosed

Hello.

I already have advanced prostate cancer and was sent for a bone scan.
Now been told I have bone cancer.
Could someone - either email me privately or give me some information about
things please.
I'm in UK, 55 years old. Diabetic T2.
This is all very new to me.
I don't see an Oncologist for two weeks yet.
I need information.
Thanks.

Hello Hugh and welcome to alt.support.cancer
I am truly sorry to read about your diagnosis.
I assume you mean prostate cancer spread to the bones?
Once we get that cleared up, perhaps it'll be easier to sort out what
information to provide you.

There's a few UK'ers posting here.
Alayne whose father in law has lung cancer .
Emily (in Wales) whose mother had cancer in the jaw and cheek.
Steph's from UK. He's a seasoned oncologist and radiation oncologist practising
in Canada but raised and trained in UK, so you might feel at home here.

There's only recently been one UK'er on the prostate cancer newsgroup with bone
mets.
Most (not all) newsgroups have far more Americans than other countries. There's
no UK newsgroup for cancer as far as I know. I last saw Kevin about a week
ago. He and his wife were off to battle with the urologist about getting Zometa
for his brother, who has the prostate cancer, so I'm not sure if he's reading
that newsgroup, this one, both or too busy trying to assist his brother.

I can't promise you a cure but will tell you to be wary of suggestions people
might make about unproven so called "therapies" or "diets" or "widgets".

I'm not an expert but think that the Gleason score is the grading system for
prostate cancer and predicts whether it's slower growing or not. Do happen to
know yours? And your PSA?
There's an article here about the Gleason Score.

Please talk to us.

Hi Hugh,
Its always the unknown facts that makes the fears of cancer
hard to come to terms with. And having to wait two weeks before you get all
the facts is real tough, There are a few gov health lines that you can look
up on the internet but I find just reading these facts only adds to my
worries and fears for the worst.
Have you been given the name of a specialist nurse at your local cancer
clinic that you could have a word with ? I am in the uk, North Wales and I
have a nurse that I can call and get all the information that I need and she
is based at the cancer unit .
Unfortunately I do not have the answers to your own problem as I have lung
cancer and really my knowledge is limited but check out with the cancer
clinic and ask about a specialist nurse that can give you all the facts that
you are looking for . My thoughts are with you Hugh , and if you want to
write to my home addy feel free . remember its good to talk . Peter.

Thankyou for replying.
The Prostate Cancer has spread to the bones, yes.
At the Urology clinic when I was told the results of the scan, I also got an
injection and told to keep taking my Cyproterone Tablets for another two
weeks.
The doctor also said my PSA level was very high - 140.
I have no idea what my Gleason score is - I'll maybe get that when I see the
Oncologist
That's all I know just now.
Oh - taking MST Purple Tablets 30 mg and blue ones called Sevredol that are
10 mg Morphine.
I HAD been thinking about Lycopeine tablets....? I already drink quite a lot
of Tomato Juice - I make it myself from Puree.
Diet - I got a brochure thats advising me exactly the opposites of my
Diabetes and Cardiac Dieticians.
So - anything in the way of info will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Peter,
Yes, it's the NOT knowing what's going on and the having to wait so long.
However, I telephoned my own GP this morning and have been given an
appointment for later this afternoon. He says he'll do his best to explain
things to me.
So that's a BIT of a relief.
Looking at the clock - I had better get a move on...
Cheers!

Thank you for the information, Hugh.
I expect your GP explained quite a bit.
We're here, whenever you feel like posting.
Here, listening and caring.
