Default mass in abdomen -- question

Hello, thanx for reading!

Patient 56yr old male recently felt a very hard lump in the lower left
quadrant of the abdomen.. Size of lump feels approximately that of a
golffball. When pressure is applied, pain is the result. Additionally, when
patient eats anything, there is sharp pain in this area along with either
diareah or very hard stool..

Family history includes several cases of colon cancer. EXACT POSITION OF
MASS is 3" below navel (just abit into waistline and about 45 degrees to the
left of the navel.

Medical visit is scheduled, but a ways away...any thoughts on what I might
be looking at so I may learn via the net everything I need to know.......

Thank You

Ray

This could just be a hernia.

Don't worry yourself sick until you see the Doctor. But, I would make it
quick as if it's a hernia where part of the intestine is protruding into
the abdomen, it could turn septic quick.... Watch temperature and if t
starts to go up, head to an emergency room.
