Default Mom's slow slide

Mom was Dx as Liver Mets of unknown primary' 2 1/2 months ago. She
tried chemo for a week and said, "No". She is 79. She is weak and
fatigued.(My alcoholic husband's liver enzimes are worse!) Even as
both the phones have a 'sticker' that says 'Call Hospice First', she
wanted 'Her' Doctor to do a 'blood work'...Today the labs found a 18.1
+ WBC, and her FP put her on an antibiotic...Are we pitting her GP
against her "Hospice"?...

Some hospices feel treating an infection is a comfort measure. I can
understand her comfort level with her GP.

Her hospice nurse was there today and she was o.k. with it. She said
they would draw blood in two weeks to check it out.

I just read your follow up to this. Simple bloodwork isn't usually
very expensive & her comfort counts for something. You may want to
check to see how/if expenses other than hospice are covered by her
medical provider. Often, once you go on hospice care, all medical
treatment must go through them to be covered. But there are often
exceptions, such as fior emergencies unrelated tot he cancer.

Just wanting you to have no surprises,
Fig

She became a hospice client on the 18th, Fig.
So what's your point, please?
(the cost of) Her mother's GP consult, bloodwork and antibiotic won't be
covered by her usual provider?

Hello Char,
It's good to read that hospice has no problems with GP getting involved.
I'm sure you're all doing all you can to keep your mother comfortable.
You'll be in our thoughts.
