Frank, I have no doubt of your intelligence but there's some confusion happening
(conflicting information you're giving us).
On Thursday you posted "Aug 8th 2006 had 75% of my liver removed due to cancer
spread. and now I have cancer in my lymph nodes around the aorta under my
intestines and a spot behind my bladder."
Point 1: I don't think the liver regenerates that fast. (but I could be wrong -
the lver surgery was August 8).
The cancer clones (see below) left behind have been continuing to spread. Food
is energy that the cancer uses to grow. And no, it's not smart to stop eating.
It just explains why you can't gain weight. Sure, they can probably put you in
hospital and put you on IV feeding, but part of that weight gain, will be fluid,
not necessarily fat or muscle.
Point 2: Your cancer is progressing.
Point 3: That "spot" is ~1cm tumor (~1,000,000,000 cancer cells) shedding
clones as it grows.
(smaller then ~1 cm tumors can't be viewed on scans.)
You've probably got thousands or even billions of small tumors that cannot be
seen on scans. (all, at different times, spreading more cancer clones, as each
grows).
If your type (and stage) of cancer could be beat, nobody would ever die of
cancer.
Your oncologist is giving you false hope, probably because he does not want you
getting depressed about it.
And/or he knows your "health picture" and knows how to manage the situation,
since you and he have sorted out the pain meds (rather than you start over with
a new oncologist).
If you've only had one "line of treatment", a new chemo or chemo combo might
shrink the lymph nodes, if they're troublesome to you (but then you have to deal
with the side effects).
