Thanks, I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving too.
About Hunter S. Thompson. I really haven't read much of his work. Ernest
Hemmingway, who suffered from severe chronic depression, was more of my type
of writer. He was awesome at expressing complex situations and emotions
using a simplistic style. Which is a relief after reading F. Scott
Fitzgerald and William Faulkner.
I find that I like some writer's short works better than their novels. I
think Melville's short stories are better written and more significant than
his novels, and I actually like them. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of his
novels.
My American Literature survey teacher removed Allan Ginsberg from the
reading list this year. I asked him why as Ginsberg was the father to a
whole style of writing. He agreed with me, but said that a little Ginsberg
went an awfully long way. I can't say much, I agree with him, but I would
have loved a chance to pull Ginsberg apart and see what made him tick.
Pam S. wishing you the best
