There is a big political argument on usenet about Trolls. Some people,
including the Trolls, believe that one should just ignore them and they will
go away and disrupt some other part of usenet, and provided that they do not
read the disrupted newsgroup, that is all fine and dandy. A version of
"St*ff you, I'm all right Jack"
Some believe that Killfiles are a total and complete answer to Trolls. They
believe that everyone using usenet should be an expert in using the killfile
facilities on their newsreader. They conveniently forget that newbies by
definition do not have this expertise and are likely to unsubscribe from a
heavily disrupted newsgroup.
Others, including me, believe that one should do what one can against them,
and that killfiles are only a useful partial tool.
As a result I have coordinated these FAQs.
The Trolls hate these FAQs, a sig which I use including this URL, and
myself. To "punish" me for actually opposing them they: post libelous
things about me all over the usenet, follow up my posts with lies about me,
forge my identity wholesale on usenet postings.
Sorry but there is nothing I can do, except warn readers, what to expect.
