Default Plasmacytoma ?

My father has been diagnosed with a plasmacytoma on his pelvis, he is
73 and feels perfectly ok apart from a noticble ache from the tumour
site.
Im reading various forms prognosis on the net, if radiation treatment
destroys the tumour what sort of time can this cancer be survived ?

If it's a solitary plasmacytoma, radiation may cure him, but about 50-70% of
patients with solitary plasmacytoma eventually develop myeloma, which isn't
curable.

Hello,
Having read what Steph replied to you, you'll find criteria and guidelines
here
<http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/HPI/CancerManagementGuidelines/Lymphoma/PlasmaCellDisorders.htm>

While I hope for a cure for your father, you may wish to connect with the
myeloma list here
http://www.acor.org/mlists/mlists.html Click on the list and "join"
I think they send a weekly digest message.
You can subscribe at any time you wish to.

Again my best wishes to you and your father.
J

First of all thankyou for all you god wishes, the webstes state

"The majority of patients with solitary plasmacytoma of bone will
eventually manifest overt multiple myeloma"

Looks like my old fella has a big battle ahead then, what has amazed
me is he rang for his results from the hospital after his biopsy and
was told he had a plasmacytoma on his pelvis by the secretary, my dad
has no idea what this is and still doesnt, I have told him to stay off
the internet and just listen to the specialists, why has this
information been released in this way, he has an appointment with his
GP who will have the full details on Monday, I can see im going to
have to keep tabs on the situation.
I will have more info on Monday.

Solitary plasmacytoma is a radiosensitive malignancy. Conventional treatment
consists of fractionated external beam irradiation to 5000 cGy in 6-7 sessions ?

Yes, we'll watch for update, Ricardo.
Some people complain they can't information. I'd rather be told, so I can think up
questions before arriving at an appointment. Which is what you are doing, so it
works.
Are you (both) in NL?
You might wish to help him get organized.
Make a list of any of his co-existing health conditions and medicines, prescribed,
over the counter, supplements and/or herbal. (unless his GP already has a good
summary of that)
Probably won't be a problem now, but could be asked at radiation oncologist's and
might be useful to keep in his file and update if/when his turns to myeloma or as
changes occur.
There might be fatigue, from the trips, the appointments, the RT and stress.
We never know, when someone posts, about an older person, if they're spry, fit and
out there playing rugby or creaky with some health issues, or frail. Some old guys
are tough as nails.

Fit as a fiddle, eh, Ricardo.
Let's hope it stays that way and he'll be back to his regular routines fairly quickly.
Keep in touch and let us know how things go.
PS Watch exchanges with Steph as well.
Best,
J

Steph, I found some plasmacytoma posts in the archives.
Three, I think were on the spine. One person had a lot of pain and you replied
that there's sometimes pain the first few treatments. Does that only apply to
when it's on the spine or can Richard's father expect some initial pain?
In addition, any expected fatigue? (or just whatever trips and/or stress take
out of a person?) If so, for how long, please?
Please and thank you for your responses.
J

Site doesn't matter. Some patients get increased pain after the first 1 or 2
fractions.
Fatigue is very variable.
