Default Prayer Line????

Would it be possible to start some kind of a prayer line within the Group
for the "believers"? Or maybe there is a support group specifically for
that purpose that I am not aware of???

Perhaps a minister could start the prayer each day/morning and the
"believers" could say the prayer to themselves and maybe just an "Amen" in
the post or whatever they wanted to add to the prayer?

I am a "believer" and I have a lot of heartfelt emotions for the people in
this group, but when it comes to expressing my feelings for them I am at a
loss for words but want them to know that I am thinking of them and praying
for them in my own way.

Anyway, just some thoughts to ponder.

Beautiful day here in Auburn, Washington and I hope it is whereever you are
too!

Tracey

It's a very nice thought, Tracey, and a valid one IMHO.
This news group is primarily to give emotional support to
cancer patients and their carers, and what you suggest may
give succour to many believers. But why ask? Do you have a
favourite prayer or biblical passage? Then why not not post it ?

I like the idea, but I'm new here so not sure of the boundaries :-) But it
would be quite a task for anyone to take on as a daily thread. Maybe a
weekly one could work?

Hi TRC,

What was wrong with your asking ? This is an unmoderated usenet forum; you
are as welcome as anyone to make it what you need, to shape it, connect with
others who share your beliefs. To define and create "support" as you need it
and as you are willing to give it.

For myself I find the "spiritual" so evident in the simple direct sharing of
our common humanity and experiences in dealing with cancer that ... That ...
is enough for me.

Personally I like the idea. I'm a believer first and a minister second
and I've got literally thousands of people praying for me across the
country and even in other nations.

Whether prayer actually works or not had been debated ad nauseam. One
thing is for sure though - it changes the pray er (ie the one who
prays) and brings in dimensions to the cancer experience that may not
have been experienced before. I pray a lot about my cancer. Usually
it's a "God is in control not cancer" type prayer and I end up with an
"either way I win" type of Amen.

Having a sub-newgroup within this one though I think would become
rather complicated. Maybe the creation of another newsgroup folder
would be in order. I have looked everywhere for a local cancer prayer
support grout to no avail. I'd be the first to join one here.

Well, I can create a newsgroup and post a (basic) Charter/FAQ there
But each (interested) person who wants to participate has to contact their ISP
(or news provider) to ask them to add it to their newsgroup list. Administrators
of the news servers make the decisions.
(I think) They usually add newsgroups, once a month, during or after server
maintenance.

Then once people here can access it and are posting to it, post the name, then
lurkers can announce it on their "home" newsgroups, so anyone can join in, once
they've contacted their news server admin or via Google.

I see (Google) subgroups of prayer lines and yahoo group of prayer line.
Many. One's specific to Romans but non-denominational. One's associated with a
yahoo boart and a sifferent prayer line where she's saying call in the prayer. I
don't think that's a good idea.
The potential problems with all of them is that there are loonies, cults and scam
potentials and crosspost flame potentials between all of them (except for a yahoo
forum).
Or the newsgroup has to be moderated, which requires 3 or 4 moderatiors for
24/hour coverage.
The subgroup can be moderated. One person would have to research that in Google
on the how to's and create one that does not have the same name..
To be honest, Joe, I've seen these started on other newsgroups and they've
degraded into praying for soldiers and some praying to stop the "war" (or pro and
anti abortion, or pro and anti vivisectionist prayers)... and totally devastating
a newsgroup, for the purposes that it was created.

The above paragraph(s) are the same reasons that I do not encourage such here.
Socks was stalked here, from other newsgroups, by one unnamed loonie, and I had
to warn the others to not reply/ignore.

So ????

Here's some http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Run2GodMinistries/
http://groups.google.tm/group/hsefriends
One "granny" seems to have started quite a few (subgroups)

Well whoever wants one, type in prayer line in the phrase box here and see what
comes up
http://groups.google.com/advanced_search
(sub groups usually don't start with alt - so how to see which are newsgroups and
which are subgroups.)

Hi

It's an idea, but is it really needed in here. I am a believer and
have faith (and a knowing) that my belief is prolonging my life,
giving me joy and quality.

I pray for all the people on this group and make a special prayer when
people seem to need a little extra help. Prayer is communication with
God, that is what is important however I believe many of us do this in
our own way... The way many people here help and support others is in
my opinion, spirituality in action.
If you feel that a special cancer prayer group is needed, why not just
start one perhaps on google, it's easy to do. Then post the link here
and those who want to join will do so.

God bless you,
isi

Thanks for the perspectives and experiences of what happens with such groups
J. I can understand that it might not be such a good idea (shame on the
trolls!)
