Again how do you repsect a country that values their Roos (kangaroos) at $.98
CDN or $1.00 AUS?? The Aussieland buck used to be the same way as the Canadian
buck $.60 US vs $1.00 AUS.

At least the American Eagle is a raptor and a stone cold killer fitting the
American culture well.

It's the dihydrogen monoxide conspiracy. Well, we ARE in the right newsgroups
for this...

For the facts on this most hazardous of chemicals--
http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

An extract.

Should I be concerned about Dihydrogen Monoxide?
Yes, you should be concerned about DHMO! Although the U.S. Government and the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) do not classify Dihydrogen Monoxide as a
toxic or carcinogenic substance (as it does with better known chemicals such as
hydrochloric acid and benzene), DHMO is a constituent of many known toxic
substances, diseases and disease-causing agents, environmental hazards and can
even be lethal to humans in quantities as small as a thimbleful.

I corresponded through Usenet in a group that had nothing to do with
politics, with a guy whose family and himself lived in South Africa. He's
about my age, 50. The last I heard of him, he wanted to get the Hell out of
there because the country has been in the throughs of reverse Apartheid ever
since Apartheid ended. He's white and has experienced difficulty finding
employment because of his race. Turnabout isn't fair play. Two wrongs do
not make a right.

If not for leftist conservationist econ nazis, the Eagle would be well on its
way to extinction.

Fat, stupid right wingers never look forward to anticipate things like that.

The stupid fuckers would end up killing them all off and then spray painting
seagulls as a substitute.

He's got an interesting story. He watched Neil Armstrong step on the moon
with a tiny TV set on his chest, lying outside of the van he was living in,
literally "down by the river". He was homeless and flat broke in 1969.

He got married in California around the time he was doing Star Trek and at
the time, the California divorce laws were brutal. She took him for all he
had and drained him dry!

He was type casted, a death warrant in the acting business and pretty well
did nothing for almost 10 years until the phone rang one day and they invited
him to be in the 1979 movie of the TV show. He was an accomplished
Shakespearian actor at the Stratford (Ontario) festival back in the early
1960's.

Now, the old bugger is more popular than ever as Denny Crane!

He's a Jewish Montrealer whose father worked in the needle trade (garment
business) and speaks fluent French. I almost fell off my chair when
watching Boston Legal one night and Denny Crane spouted off with a few lines
in French! I'd never heard Shatner speak it before.

He still hasn't become a US citizen yet.

Yeah, true. It's called revenge. Comprehensible, but unproductive and
futile in the end.

But it does produce some immediate gratification for the perps. Quite a number
of people just can't seem to think that far ahead, if they think at all.

The divorce laws still are, especially if you have kids.

Calif is still a real shitty place to get a divorce even when you don't have
anything.

Seems like the typecast saved his ass in this instance since they have gone on
to make several more movies as well as his stint at TJ Hooker.

He is an honorary citizen of Riverside, Iowa the future birthplace of James T.
Kirk.

Well I guess we will just have to settle for Peter Jennings (TV Personality)
who did become a US citizen.
Shatner has always had a reputation for being over the top.

Yeah, fun revenge like when Canada once had its ass kicked in Junior A
international ice hockey by Kazakhstan or the only Australian in the 2002
winter Olympic games kicked ass and won Gold in ski boarding, after being
booted off of the Canadian team!

Nothing compared to prejudice though.

Jennings was a high school drop-out from Toronto who worked briefly with the
CBC, failed miserably and moved to the USA in the mid 1960's. He failed
miserably as a newsreader as well because he was just a young pup and up
against Cronkite and the others of the day. He became a reporter, spent a
lot of time in Vietnam, and later got his old job back.

He became a citizen in 2003 and I think what he said below echos my views as
well about the place where I've worked, spent time and the people I've met.

"His work on In Search of America and the September 11 attacks contributed to
his decision in 2003 to become a dual citizen of Canada and the United
States. "I think that 9/11 and the subsequent travel I did in the country
afterwards made me feel connected in new ways," he said. "And when we were
working on the America project I spent a lot of time on the road, which meant
away from my editor's desk, and I just got much more connected to the
Founding Fathers' dreams and ideas for the future." His work had prepared him
well for the citizenship test, which he easily passed. "Can you imagine I,
who just finished a whole series on America and had been an anchorperson for
an American broadcast...could you imagine if I had failed?" he asked. "It
would have been horrendous."

His ashes are at his home on Long Island and their cottage in the beautiful
Gatineau Hills, near Ottawa.

If you think that's bad try being a white farmer in Zimbabwe. I think
Apartheid is one of the reasons I left when I was around 2 or 3 back to
Scotland. Now I'd probably have been forced out.

OK, we discussed the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

In Toronto, there is the 6 degrees of John Candy.

My friend's friend is his cousin, other friends who don't know my friend know
his brother.

Out of millions in Toronto, everyone seems to have had contact or knew
someone who knew John Candy.

I was at his cousins wedding back in 1990 (we played on the same hockey team)
and met people who I knew, who I didn't know knew the family. John left
early because there was too much attention on him and he felt that it was a
distraction from his cousin.

In Scarborough where he grew up, my home as well, he worked at the local
department store selling pets. I was in there all the time back then, but
didn't know him.

What a great guy he was. His passing in 1994 was a blow to so many fans.

I think that is why some states in the USA have capital punishment.

Everyone knowing him does not surprise me. It just seemed to me that he would
be a real outgoing and strong personality. He was a hell of a guy. There are
still lots of those Second City folks still running around out in movieland.
Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, and Dave Thomas come to mind. Take off, eh?

I live not far from a place on Avenue Road in Toronto where Candy and friends
lived. Danny Aykroyd, Andrea Martin, Paul Shaeffer, Guilda Radner, Robin
Duke, Martin Short and even Vic Garber (who played Jesus Christ in Jesus
Christ Superstar) hung out.

Second City in Toronto back in 1972 was Aykroyd, Radner, Duke and Candy.
Jesus Christ Superstar was at the Bayview Theatre (not far from me) and
Martin Short, Martin, Paul Shaeffer, Vic Garber (from "Alias" and "Eli
Stone") were doing their thing.

Aykroyd mentioned the house on an SCTV 3 show profile a while ago.

I walk by the place often. It should be a "shrine" if you ask me.
