I received a mailing from the Anthony Nolan Trust today. Anthony Nolan is
main private sector provider of bone barrow for Leukaemia sufferers in the
UK.
It's not that bad. I registered over ten years ago. A public sector
National Health Service hospital took a sample, no more that I was used to
donating at blood donor session, I later received a card and direct mail.
They never called me. I wish they had. My life was never worth much, but
I might have given life to someone, but never had my chance.
I'm 46½. To register one must be under age 45, and they do not take marrow
from adults over age 50.
Now I have to tell them, and I have told them, I have AML and they must
remove me from their lists. My chances in the next 3½ years were minimal,
certainly no greater than in the 13 or so years I was on their list, but if
only.
Intentions are good enough from everyone, except me. I have to prove I
care, and I failed.
