Yes, purple and green. There's a salad that's purple and white. I love it.
Asparagus as well. I microwave it and put it in lots of things or just use
as a snack.
Your Doc is special, bringing you in some soup, but I'd definitiely say
"hold the jalapenos(?sp)"
I don't know how to spell it either, but definitely too hot for me !

Well, unfortunately, I haven't heard _anything_ from the surgeon since
before the surgery (literally - before Dec 18th, 2007) - He didn't even
come in to see me after the operation). He's also the one who let the
tumour grow in my head for a _year_ before getting an MRI.

It was the 8 hour surgery - that ended up being 16.5 hours - that
discovered that this is cancer.

Understandably, I'm not exactly confident in this individual's capabilities
or answers. I'll be looking for a different surgeon to get answers from
with regards to the nerve issue.

I got an Oriental meal at Costco that had a wonderful slaw-like salad
that I have replicated. It is just shredded green & red cabbage with
some shredded carrots, but what makes it special is sliced almonds &
chow mein noodles. It came with an oriental dressing, but I also like
the refrigerated miso dressing too, which has more going for it than
typical slaw dressing.

You can send all the jalapenos you don't want down to me. I LOVE them.
Stuff them with peanut butter & Socks would down a plateful. Weird but
wonderful with shredded cheese. The local Mexican restaurant charges a
pretty penny for this appetizer. Socks was no vegetable lover, so I
never touted the healthful benefits of jalapenos - loaded with vitamin C
& they are a dark green vegetable!

The whole schmear sounds yummy. I had miso dressing a few weeks ago for
the first. It as yummy.
You can keepmy share of seaweed salad.
I will definitely try the mix salad. Peppers? Stuff mine with cheese or
cream cheese and I am a peanutbutter lover too.
Need a good source for Jalapeno Jelly. Mine went out of business.
Nice hearing from you.

Hi, Betsy,

It is good to see you here too. There was a longish gap & I worried.

I don't get jalapeno jelly often. Sweet does seem to counteract the
hot.

Glad you like the miso dressing. I have had it before, but it just
recently showed up in a giant bottle at Costco. To me, it complements
the salad without overpowering.

My basil is now ready for cutting, or I have deemed it so. Tomatoes,
basil & onions. A dab or olive oil & more than a dab of pepper & call
me to the table!

I just got back from seeing Gary Puckett at a garden near my house that
has Sunday evening concerts. He's about 66 now & still has a good
voice. Enjoyable evening.

I had bought some polar fleece booties & have copied them. Only 3
pieces. These are so comfy around the house & they cushion the feet
more than you'd think. Surprisingly, I am finding them comfortable for
summer wear too. I had minor foot surgery & they helped keep everything
protected. I wonder if craft pain would help make these non-skid. A
clever thought you had.

Long time no see. I love the look of those booties, now to figure out how
to copy them myself. I also love Gary Puckett. He is originally from a
small place called Union Gap, Washington, near Yakima. Supposedly my
grandmother was friends with his mom. I doubt it, but it sounds good in the
telling.

Rob says to tell you that he still has the hat. Both he and the cats wear
it whenever the weather gets chilly. Not at the same time, of course, but
he often has to kick a cat out of it when he wants to put it on. It does
the best job of keeping his head warm of anything he's tried. At this time
of year, a warm head is a moot point. But it is there and he loves to show
it off and tell what he recalls as the story of how he got it. Later I tell
my version of it and our guests get to figure out which of us is telling the
correct story.

Take care sweetie, and thank you for making life that bit easier for Rob and
me.

Pam S.

Dave. Wife Nancy has colo/rectal cancer which has spread to her
lungs. All chemo/rad has been stopped and she is now enrolled in
hospice.

======================

Dave, I know hospice seems like the end of the world, and maybe it is. But
I know several people who have colo/rectal cancer with mets to other parts
of the body that are still with us. Don't give up, the human body is
incredible in how it responds.

In March, we gave up hospice because my husband, who'd been given only 6
months or so to live had made it for over a year and was doing well enough
that he didn't need the help. Later, when he does need the help again,
we'll put him back in hospice.

I don't know about your experiences in hospice, but ours were positive ones.
The weekly nurse visits were done by a caring and down to earth nurse with a
great attitude. Our social worker visited every other week or so and always
had something cheerful and upbeat for us to read, look at, or think about.
Rob's CNAs were good. They helped him as much as he needed and no more. I
felt comfortable with them, after I got over feeling as though our house had
been invaded.

One thing I wish I'd done was to go to the grocery store when they were here
as well as run other errands that I really needed to do, but put off because
I wasn't comfortable, at first, with hospice workers being in my house.
Just going to the library for a couple of hours would have helped me keep my
mental batteries charged.

Take care of yourself as well as Nancy. It is way too easy to let yourself
get run over with her disease. We're here for you and there are many more
of us in here than you'd think.

Pam S.

Craft Paint works on any material it will stick to. On fuzzie stuff, go
lightly. It will get caught on register covers/cold air returns.
The slippers you copied are really nice.

Ok its been almost 9 years since my surgery, diagnosed march 17th 1999 chemo
and radiation followed by a LAR for my rectal cancer(July 6th 1999) so
really right at nine years . I am doing well, then found a polyp at the
anastomosis site this year and removed it, very scary. I am still dealing
with bowel problems and depression but hate the alternative. I thank each
day as being a new day, and would not stop even though I face daily problems
(mental and physical). I hope everyone is doing well and wish you all the
best in the world

Hi, Pam,

I'm so glad Rob is still enjoying Sock's hat. Socks would be pleased.
It's funny the things we give away & how they turn out. I gave Socks'
car, which we had been praying would last as long as he needed it, to a
friend of his who, for whatever reason, works hard but is always living
on the edge. Elaine had no car & when I called her with an offer to
give her Socks', she was taking a variety of public transit to get to
work/church/store. She was overjoyed. Now, almost 3 years later, the
car is running like a champ & she even figured out what to do about the
tricky starter. I had been almost apologetic about giving it, hoping
the insurance/registration fee was worth what she would get out of it.

Not thinking about warm winter hats just now. Dang, it's hot & dry!

I have been traveling & then had a small internet connection drama which
has taken on a life of its own. A guy at the phone company scammed me.
Now I can;t get back the service I had & have to pay twice as much b/c
fiber optics is in my neighborhood!!?! But after weeks of turned
on/turned off/changing/mixups/having them fire my ISP/conflicting
explanations, I'm just enjoying a week of connectivity before writing my
letter to the PUC.

My little Prius won the lottery & earned a sticker letting her into the
HOV lanes. She is very happy as is her driver. You no more own a Prius
than you own a cat!

My Bartholomew gets wilder by the day. I keep asking him - who ARE you?
Who gave birth to you? Does anyone claim you except me? He is a funny
& loving little guy. His 'sister' is finally coming out of her shell
after about a year here.

That's all my news except work stuff that - oh dear - don't even want
to think about all of that!

Glad to hear you are doing so well (relative I know) & that Rob is
hanging in there & enjoying things.

Thanks for the tips! The booties are really easy to make. The trick is
to cut the piece that goes over the top of the arch a little wide & ease
it in to give more room there. Here, those registers are next to the
wall or on wall/ceiling, so I don't walk there much. One could take a
spill racing down the stairs, especially when the wood has a fresh coat.
I will get out the dregs of my craft paint. The ones I copied have
something non-skid in spots on the bottom. Their old version did not
have.

Hope you are enjoying the summer. Has Janet been to visit?
