You gotta buy the whole mouse if you want one new, but I've got some
lying around.

It's probably not the ball. It's probably one of the rollers inside. I
had a mouse that suddenly stopped moving the cursor to the right. I
tried everything I could think of to fix it, but no go. I like optical
and laser mice much better.

Well, if I have more than one extra optical mouse, you can have it. I'll
have to look through some boxes.

x 2 what Slunky said, you could try cleaning the rollers with an old
toothbrush, that sometimes works well.

I think mouse balls are deprecated - go optical.
I just clean the rollers.

Back when a mouse was a rather expensive device you could. Now you can
just spend $15 and get a basic MS optical mouse WITH wheel. We bought
about a half dozen to take down to the orphanage in Mexico. They can be
used in a USB port or the regular mouse port with the included little
adapter.

If you don't already have a wheel you have no IDEA how addicting they are.

Not to mention that if you're still using a ball mouse you'll really
like an optical mouse much more, no more grunge making things roll all
rough and rumbing...just keep the bottom pads clean and it'll glide like
an air hockey table puck.

It's come to be my understanding that the ball is the soul of the mouse...
at some point it becomes to dirty to clean in any meaningful way.

Slunky can bypass the mouse altogether and use the keyboard, I've
heard that's the way to go if you can master it...
