First...I think we need a break from ourselves a lot more often than other
people need a break from us, primarily because we are dealing with a
different "us" alone in our head with all those thoughts, many of them
unspoken. Second...you have to do what's right for you. Needing a break
from yourself is one thing, feeling you need a break from ASD because that's
what *you* want to do is another, however, feeling like *we* need a break
from you is a whole other animal. It isn't up to you to determine what we
want or need. You don't get to decide whether or not ASD needs a break from
you, we do, and speaking for myself, and I don't doubt others, I don't need
a break from you and don't want you going anywhere. I think we all go
through stages like the one you're describing. I know I do. You did all
you could do to rectify the situation and express your regret and how she
reacts or responds to that is HER responsibility, not yours. You have no
control over how someone else feels. She'll have to work that out for
herself. And you my dear, have to forgive yourself and stop beating
yourself up over this. For all we know there could be a hundred other
reasons for her downturn, she is mentally ill after all, that has little to
do with this one small part. I understand what you're feeling, really I do,
I have felt it myself more times than I can remember, but you have to find a
way to let yourself off the proverbial hook at this point, and take care of
your own feelings. You're a good and kind soul Cindy. Try to remember that
as you work through this.
