Well, not as easy as you think for some people.
Some people have a genetic condition that makes it extremely hard to lose
weight.... I am one of them. I did lose weight once, kept it off for 10
years, but almost died because in my attemp to be "like everyone else" I
became severely anorexic. So for me, losing weight is not a question of
having will-power. It's a lot more complicated than that.

It is an extremely difficult condition to change. There is only one
treatment, and that is eating less. Choose nutrient-rich foods so you
can get your nutrition and being able to eat the most. Get a notepad
and keep it handy, and write down everything you eat for 2 or 3 days.
It ups your awareness of what you're doing. Try it.

Everyone has the same genetic condition, which is difficulty in taking
off weight, altho its easier to take it off in the early stages of
overweight. The longer one is fat, the more resistance the body has to
    let go of it.

How often do you take your genetic condition to the gym? Has your
genetic condition made an appointment with a nutritional specialist?

I'm sorry, but some people who eats 2000 calories a day will lose weight,
and some others will gain with the same caloric intake. I am a member of
the second group. In order to lose weight I have to eat between 500 to 1000
calories a day. I have been through years of dieting, believe me I know how
to eat. I have a lot of "idiosyncratic" (sp?) problems that no doctors can
identify the cause, other than "it's hormone related". There are no golden
rules when it comes to the human body, and it is false to pretend that
everyone is the same in the weight gain/weight loss battle. I know people
who cannot gain weight no matter what they do, and others who just stop
drinking soda and lose a huge amount of weight. Thinking everyone reacts
    the same is plain ignorant.

It never ceased to amaze me how easy is it to judge and critisize people who
are overweight..... have I said I had a skin disorder on top of my
depression I would have received supportive emails, but because I posted
about my weight, I got nothing but deragatory and harsh comments. It really
hurts me. Really. I thought this was a place to vent and support each
    other. Apparently not.

And to answer your snotty questions Franz about the gym and nutritional
specialist, it is yes to both. Not as if my answer would mean anything.....

well, your body can't fill those fat cells without fat to put in 'em, and
there's not too many ways for that fat to get in there. but i know the
solution isn't as simple as starving yourself.

if you've got a metabolic disorder that causes the food you eat to be stored
as fat instead of converted to energy, that's diagnosable and treatable. if
this is going on, you're probably quite lethargic in addition to being
overweight. an underactive thyroid is sometimes the problem, among other
possibilities. in this case you need medical help.

if you inherited a body type that has a larger than average number of fat
cells, you probably have to live with them screaming for food all the time.
when they're depleted, they trigger hunger. unfortunately the more you
satisfy them, the more they reproduce. so then you pretty much have to
accept being "big", and try to keep the issue under control.

some people have opted for liposuction, which is a procedure for removing
fat cells from various parts of the body, with mixed results. from what i've
read on the subject, i gather fat cells are complex in function and are only
now beginning to be understood. removing them indiscriminately may not be a
    good idea.

i personally see nothing unattractive about a well-padded body, or anything
wrong with it as long as it's healthy, active, and reasonably toned. if
you're looking to meet a partner, and you run into some dick who thinks you
need to look like barbie to be attractive, then you know he's too
superficial and messed up to be with you anyway.

Here's a reason why people are not sympathizing with your claim to have
a genetic condition that makes you be fat: So does every other
overweight person make claims like that. I have heard so many reasons
and stories from overweight people about why its not their fault they
are fat, that it is truly laughable. Even if you do have that rare
special condition that causes you to gain weight disproportionately to
your food intake, it still can be managed by your intake of food. If
you want proof, take a look at pics from countries where there is
starvation and drought. They are all extremely thin. No one stays fat
in the face of insufficient food intake. Since you have had serious
problems associated with weight loss attempts, you should diet with the
supervision of a professional, preferably a doctor, to prevent
    anorexia.

I don't think you are going to find any sympathy here, other than
acknowledgment from other overweight people that it is truly very
difficult to get the weight off and keep it off. Join the club, or
    better yet, join weight watchers.

    Sincerely, ..of Perception

special condition that causes you to gain weight disproportionately to
your food intake, it still can be managed by your intake of food. If
you want proof, take a look at pics from countries where there is
starvation and drought.

But Carol, your ignorance is atrocious, and I agree with it!

you have to find someone who loves you for who you are... there are
plenty of depressed, overweight people who are married or in some type
of relationship... It's true that we live in a very judgemental,
appearence oriented, superficial society, there was a very interesting
show on "20/20" about that this past friday, but not all people are
like that... The most important things is finding self love and self
acceptance and self esteem... not that it's easy to find those things
by any means, but it's a good goal to work on...

    Hey Jordy,

I support 100% of everything you say. I try to work by that rule everyday
of my life. It's just that for some strange reason, when I find someone who
is attracted to me, they usually run when I talk to them about my dysthymia.

Here's a reason why people are not sympathizing with your claim to have
a genetic condition that makes you be fat: So does every other
overweight person make claims like that. I have heard so many reasons
and stories from overweight people about why its not their fault they
are fat, that it is truly laughable.

--I agree. But believe me I am the living proof that such a condition
exists. My mother was on a diet ALL her life. From the day I started being
able to eat solids, I ate nothing but good food . Fruits and veggies, lean
meants, no potatoes, no pasta, no dessert, no snack foods, no sodas. I
think I ate my first potato chip at a birthday party when I was 7 or 8. It
didn't prevent me to weight 100 lbs at 6 years old. A doctor put me on a
strict diet when I was 6, and I lost 40 lbs eating salad and drinking plain
water. So someone eating sensibly CAN gain weight no matter what they do.--

Even if you do have that rare
special condition that causes you to gain weight disproportionately to
your food intake, it still can be managed by your intake of food. If
you want proof, take a look at pics from countries where there is

problems associated with weight loss attempts, you should diet with the
supervision of a professional, preferably a doctor, to prevent
    anorexia.

--Exactly. I eat about 800 calories a day in order to not gain anymore
weight. I take vitamins supplements. And for your information, the
anorexia came after I went on a diet with a licenced nutritionnist.--

I don't think you are going to find any sympathy here, other than
acknowledgment from other overweight people that it is truly very
difficult to get the weight off and keep it off. Join the club, or
    better yet, join weight watchers.

--Thank you for your comments, but no, I won't goind WW. Been there done
that. And all the others too.--

You're absolutely right. Had you posted about any other disorder I don't
doubt the reaction would have been different. It's both sad and disgusting.
Unfortunately, you will have to learn to take the good with the bad in a
place like this. There is an awful lot of bad to be found in Usenet.
Fortunately there is also some good. Perhaps not an equal balance, but good
all the same, people who will not treat you differently because of your
weight problem. I myself don't have a weight problem, so I don't know that
I have much advice, or can be of much help, and I can only imagine and try
to understand how difficult it must be to be in your situation, but I can
listen and be supportive. I hope you can learn to ignore as much of the bad
as possible and focus on the good, and give me and others like me a chance
to show you that not everyone is the same.

Ok, so then do tell about the skin disorder and how that limits your
life. Not all exercise has to be done outside, in college I'd workout on
machines with my textbooks on a stand in front of me inside the rec
center. I would have loved to have been outside instead but that wasn't
    practical.

What did the nutritionist recommend to you? Do you need an Atkin's style
diet, a liquid diet? Do you need to potentially consider something more
dramatic such as a stomach staple?

This is a place to vent, but I'm not going to your pity party. I'm happy
to discuss things with you but if you just consider it "snotty" then
I'll just have to wish you, and your acerbic attitude a good day

The following list is from this place:
    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/obe...314/DSECTION=7

    Behavior change
To lose weight and keep it off, you need to make changes in your
    lifestyle.

There's more to changing your lifestyle than choosing different

foods and putting more activity into your day. It also involves

changing your approach to eating and activity, which means changing

how you think, feel and act.

Research has demonstrated that a number of tools and tips are

effective in helping you change. Follow these tips for change:

Motivate yourself. No one can make you lose weight. In fact,

increased external pressure - often from people close to you - may

only make matters worse. Likewise, trying to lose weight to satisfy

someone else rarely works either. Make diet and exercise changes to

    please yourself

Make lifestyle changes a priority. As you're planning to launch new

weight-related lifestyle changes, make sure you've resolved other

pressing problems in your life. It takes a lot of energy to change

habits, and you want to be sure you're focused on the matter at

    hand.

Have a plan. Work out a strategy that will gradually change the

habits and attitudes that may have undermined your past efforts to

lose weight. Choose a definite start date. Consider how often and

how long you will exercise. Determine a realistic eating plan that

includes plenty of water, fruits and vegetables. Write everything

down: When and where will you do the steps in your plan? How will

your plan fit into your schedule? What are the potential roadblocks,

and how will you deal with them?

Set small goals. Remember that you're in this for the long haul.

You're making lifestyle changes, and the goals you've written down

are your first baby steps in that direction. Anything you undertake

too intensely or too vigorously will often become uncomfortable, and

you're more likely to give it up.

Surround yourself with good examples. As you set your goals, it

helps to surround yourself with good examples. Magazines such as

"Health," "Shape" and "Cooking Light" include plenty of real-life

stories, healthy and easy recipes , exercise tips and interesting

facts about fitness. Even if you eat meat, a publication such as

"Vegetarian Times" can provide a wealth of low-fat recipes.

Avoid food triggers. Distract yourself from your desire to eat with

something positive, such as calling a friend. Practice saying no to

unhealthy foods and big portions. Eat when you're actually hungry -

not when the clock says it's time to eat. When you eat, focus on

eating. Serve your meals on smaller plates to make less food seem

like more. In general, store food out of sight and don't keep junk

    foods around.

Keep a record. Ask your doctor how often you should weigh yourself

as you work to lose weight. Your doctor may also recommend that you

keep a food and activity diary periodically, so you can reinforce

good habits and discover any behaviors that you may need to improve.

Remember that success isn't defined only by actual weight lost. In

fact, be sure to track other important health parameters such as

blood pressure, cholesterol levels and overall fitness.

Focus on the positive. Rather than focusing on what you can't eat,

focus on what you can eat. Look at what new tastes and activities

you can discover that will enhance your health.

Don't give up. So much in American culture conspires to make and

keep you overweight. You will have setbacks. Don't expect

perfection. But don't give up. Use relapses to get back on track.

Motivate yourself with healthy, nonfood rewards when you reach

    goals.
