Default Switched pain meds

Went from fentanyl patches to methadone. The new insurance company wants
an arm and a leg for it - we'll see if the patient assistance program
comes through.

To tell the truth I'm happy not to be bothered with the patches. Worried
about bending and mucking up the adhesive. Sweating under them while
exercising... Patches suck.

methadone is CHEAP!
You shouldn't have any problems whatsoever with assistance
Compared to all the other pain meds (especially the schedule IIs), its dirt
cheap..........
I went on it but it swelled my throat, so they said I was
allergic..........I was kinda bummed too because I'd talked to other
patients who said it worked really well for them

just not for me
but i was shocked at how cheap it is

If you are also on an antidepressant, don't forget what happened to
Anna Nicole's son. He was on two antidepressants and was taking
methadone. I take Vic for pain, one every other day usually,( and
Paxil every day) but I think I need the narcotic more than the Tylenol
in it, but if I tell the doctor that, he just stares like I'm some
street person dealing, so I can't experiment to find the ideal thing.

It's generic, for a start.

The difference between brand name duragesic fentanyl and generic
fentanyl patches is $100...that is to say...~$500 or ~$600/month.

Cold water extraction. Hydrocodone/opiates and such are *very* water
soluble and tylenol is much less so. Crush up your pills mix in water
and chill. You'll see the APAP begin to crystalize out of the solution
as it gets colder (but NEVER frozen). Use something like a zip-lock bag
and then you can put a small nick in the corner to get a thin stream
from the bag and pinch it off when the flotsam starts getting to the bottom.

Reuse your old stuff, like 2nd round tea leaves, to seed a quicker
crystallization and to ensure maximum extraction.

Since you're working with a known quantity of pills that's going to be
the dose of the (now nasty tasting) liquid that is sans tylenol.

It's almost evil the way they use tylenol. It doesn't stop abuse, it
doesn't stop concurrent use with alcohol (double whammy)... Just sort of
a "they deserve it" kind of attitude.

how's it working? I'm still on the kadian and find if I take enough to
relieve the pain effectively all I do is sleep. If I cut back so I'm
awake and functioning I hurt like hell. I can't find a happy medium
with it and I've been on it for almost 3 years so you'd think my
resistance would be high enough it wouldn't sedate me so much.

Methadone has been mentioned as an option instead. I've heard it can
increase energy but also heard that it causes sweet cravings and weight
gain.

good luck with it

Default Re: Switched pain meds

sounds like you need to try some new meds til you find the right
one..........
i can't take methadone or morphine
methadone swoll my throat up, and with the morphine, it not only knocked me
goofy (couldn't even stay awake through a half hour of news, was lucky if I
made it 15 minutes), but it made me sick as a dog..........
and it just got worse

back on my old stuff i had pain control without those side-effects

good luck to you justpackrat
