| | | 1 week no smoking! My last cigarette was exactly 1 week ago.
I won't lie and say it's been easy, because it hasn't.
But it hasn't been completely unbearable, either.
I checked my blood pressure today and it was 112/70.
I haven't seen numbers that low.. well, ever. Since
I've been monitoring it, at least.. which is since my
diabetes dx in 12/2003.
So.. yay, me?

My quit meter:
I have been quit for 1 Week.
I have saved $22.04 by not smoking 140 cigarettes.
I have saved 11 hours and 40 minutes of my life.

Thanks. It feels good. I've already noticed some differences.. my sense of
smell and taste are much improved, and I haven't been coughing this week
like
I usually do.
I've had a few moments of temptation but thankfully haven't given in (and
don't
plan to!)

Wahoo!! Way to go Amy.
Quitting smoking is not easy but it only gets easier from here. I quit cold
turkey after 23 years and have been smoke free for just over 20 years now.
Keep reminding yourself why you are quitting and resolve to live with the
fact that it would be quite easy to slip right back into your old habits,
but don't do it. This is as much a contest with yourself as anything but it
also impacts everyone around you. You can do it, it's been done before.
I'll be pulling for ya,
Peter G.

Amy, congratulations - you're doing an incredibly wonderful thing for
yourself. That quit meter looks mighty fine! No, it isn't easy, but you're
already seeing lower blood pressure, so you can imagine all the other good
things that are happening in your body that you *can't* see or measure.
I quit smoking cold turkey six years ago. In fact, my quit-date anniversary
is coming up very soon: October 15. I was a very heavy smoker - 2+ packs a
day - and I didn't think I'd ever have the willpower to quit. But I was
bound and determined I wasn't going to give those lying snakes at Big
Tobacco another dime of my money. I quit more for my pocketbook than I did
for my health, but hey, whatever works, right?
I found that drinking ice water seemed to help with the nicotine cravings.
Other people in the alt.support.stop-smoking newsgroup (affectionately known
as AS3) said ice water helped them, too, so you may want to try that. The
AS3 newsgroup is a *wonderful* source of support for those trying to quit,
or even just thinking about quitting; I recommend it highly.
Good luck - I'm rooting for you, too!

Good job. In a year it will be $1,146.08 saved. Just don't swap smoking

Good for you! I know what you're going through. I quit 17 years ago after
a 6 week smoking cessation class and although I actually dreamed about
smoking when asleep I never picked up another cigarette. I had smoked for
20+ years and had a 2 pack a day habit! It's painful to quit but at some
point soon you will realize that you think of yourself as a "non-smoker" and
that's when you know you've licked it.
You are doing so good. Keep a good count of that money you're saving and
buy yourself a nice piece of jewelry. Something you will always be proud
of. You deserve a reward!
I'm so happy for you. I love your "quit meter".

quit after many years of heavy smoking. I was lying in bed with my
sweetie, and the windows were open, and I asked him "what is that
wonderful smell!?" and he said, "trees, honey, grass and trees, it's
just how the air smells."
Hang in there!

Keep on doing what works for you even if it is only for a day at a
time, an hour at a time, or even a few minutes. That is what worked
for me and I haven't had a cigarette in over 21 years.

Your right, it would be easy to slip back into old habits.
I have been quit, for about 7 1/2 years now. But I am one of those who
like the smell of second hand smoke. And when I hit 85, I'm going to
light one up that is 2 inches in diameter and 10" long, all mary jane. |

Good Show! It really does get easier the longer you go. Hang in and
do not give in to temptation.
The real eye opener is when you enter or exit a store or other
building and can smell the awlful smell of ash cans around the doors.
Remember, you, your clothes, your car and your house smell like that
to none smokers.

Amy,
That is wonderfu news! Having been there some 34 years ago, I stll
remember how difficult it was and give you a gret deal of credit. i was
fortunate to have a friend (another kindergarten mother) who had quit some
years earlier and I could call her when it got difficult , particularly,
when alone at home or just with my small kids. If you cn ifind a friend
to help, it might make it a bit easier for you.
Keep up the good work and report to us and we sill be a cheerign squad

I figued it was time. I'm really trying to make an effort to get

so I figure, what's the point, if I'm still going to be smoking?

| | | Re: 1 week no smoking! Good work Amy. It's easy to relapse. I've been quit 21 years, and would
just love to smoke one a yard long!!!
Do yourself a favor. Take that money you're saving and put it aside. In a
year, buy yourself something really nice to celebrate a year of no smoke
(and an extra 3 1/2 weeks of life).

saving $76.06. Life saved: 1 day, 17 hours, 40 minutes.

Yup! Haven't smoked a one. I've had a few moments when I really wanted one,
but I was able to convince myself that I really wanted to be healthy more.
And the cravings haven't been too bad.
Congratulations to you, too!
Amy
I have been a non-smoker for 2 Weeks and 16 minutes.
I have saved $44.12 by not smoking 280 cigarettes.
I have lengthened my life by 23 hours and 20 minutes. |
