I discuss these issues outside of the Internet..

Here is a sample.

My patient pleads poverty but I note they are buying
a lot of booze and lottery tickets.

One pleaded for help and then five minutes later they were bragging
about a Nevada gambling trip..

Years ago I had an employee that constantly want a raise,He was not
making it. Then at lunch he told about taking his family and friend
to the elite very costly restaurant. I ignore his complaint after
that.
He was barely earning his current pay.

We are failing so often because we only look at one side.

Most posts here against Moore are trying to cover their ass
instead of open discussion.

We have to socialize medical care and shift the power to
others than the providers. We do not have any good choice.

We damn well better try to fund more education and
well run research.

I was born too early to profit from this effort.

But I have seen a graveyard full of people that died
early in life due to diseases eliminated by vaccines and
antibiotics.

But see some religious and sex distorted people
fight the new vaccine that will save any girls from
a horrible cancer death.

I am too old to buy the bull shit. I was always taught
to develop a rational philosophy independent of the big
mouths.

If I were a young girl, or had a young daughter I'd think long and
hard about this new vaccine. It promises a lot, but..... remember
thalidomide?

No more bull shit now than in past generations. It's just phrased
differently and has much wider exposure. Cut through the most
strident and you'll find many more rational thinkers who have ethics
and morality and will help guide this world into the next generations.

The word "modern" is a very misused word. There
was much coverage of an ancient Greek letter where
the complaint about the new generation could have been
written yesterday.

Start history with the flags and bugles can be depressing.

I think the use of mind altering drugs is a negative but
not much different from the alcohol scene.

When I was 20 I was sure education was the answer.
Now I know the draw back of overeducating some
people. The Carnagie that built all of the libraries warned
us about this.

We can correct a few things but there is a limit.
There are new tools but we have the limit of our evolved brain
selected from a warring and thieving world.

We do the best we can to overcome these limits and must continue
to sell the idea of a perfect world. It is a goal to reach for.

There will always be complaints about the current generation by the
older generation.

Not sure what you mean....

Mind altering drugs have been around for all of history. Abuses of
mind altering drugs have been around just as long. What's your point?

Is it possible to overeducate a person? Carnegie believed that
education would make it possible for people to succeed on ability, not
by birthright, and educated people made better citizens.

We are not limited by our "evolved brain." The human brain is used
far too little, it's capable of much more than we know now.

We should strive for perfection, but no group of people's definition
of "perfect" will agree with any other group of people.

A person's reach should always exceed her grasp.

What in the world would people in this newsgroup have to cover their
ass for when speaking against Moore. I did like Roger and Me, it was
entertaining, but I don't take him seriously, even on his best day.

I wonder if the letter you're speaking of is one I read some time ago and
have been trying to find again for years. I believe it was Plato. Do you
have it?

Only the impact it had on me when I read the translation
I was young and I was impressed by all I read.

I saw that we have limits on our ideas and
few are new.

Nothing have come across makes me go back to worship
any system or hero.

I was discussing the area of biochemistry today.
WE do have a limited brain and we do not have enough
storage elements to ever understand it like the
PR people say

The head of a University electrical engineering department used to
give a seminar each year.,

The theme was "the more we learn the less we know."

As we climb the mountain of knowledge, we see do know less
of the total

The accumulation of knowledge is increasing faster than any individual
can learn.

Thinking like this places an audit on our behavior.

Reading some of the Greek from that age Is so good
when we get so arrogant about the present crazes.

So much harm results from self centered people

This one? Sounds almosat like Cat Stevens "Father and Son":

"You are young, my son, and, as the years go by, time will
change and even reverse many of your present opinions.
Refrain therefore awhile from setting yourself up as a judge
of the highest matters."
Plato , Dialogues, Theatetus

A different quote, but think of how often you've heard this
one in different words, then look at the attribution:

"We trained hard, but it seemed that everytime we were
beginning to form up into teams, we would be reorganized. I
was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new
situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be
for creating the illusion of progress while producing
confusion, inefficiency and demoralization."
