Default help with pens please :)

Hi There again

Ok so ive been testing out these pens my doc gave me Novolog and Levemir and
love them so when I see her on monday will ask her to write me a script for
them.

However they come in packs of 5, the Levemir im taking after trying
different dosages is 40/60 so 10 pens a month will get me through, the
novolog Im taking on a sliding scale from 20 to 30 units at meals so in
theory 80 units to 120 units a day (been more like 110 though) so i will
figure i need about 11pens of novolog to get me through a month, however
looking at my insurance company it seems they only pay out in 5's so its
either going to be 10 pens or 15 pens?

I had a problem when my doctor wanted me to test 4times a day so my doc
wrote me a script for 120 strips and the pharmacy only gave me 100, so i ran
out in 25 days when i tried to refill they would not let me as 30 days has
not been through.

what do other people do?

tell your doctor and then YOU figure out how many
you're going to need and tell your doctor, "I need a
script for xyz amount, please." and hopefully they'll
agree and give it to you. I've had the same issue and
that's how I've gotten around it.. thankfully my doctor
doesn't complain. LOL matter fact, she tells me so
long as I'm not bordering Insurance fraud, I can have
as much of any medication I want.

good luck

Have your doctor write a prescription for 150 strips to cover sick days and
days you have to test because you feel low or high.

For the novolog either change your meals to fit your insulin requirements
or exercise more to reduce your insulin requirements.

Don't forget the other two ways you can effect your insulin needs - Diet
and Exercise.

Your "monthly prescriptions" should be a bit MORE than you need.

That way, you just refill a bit less often and never get caught short.
