We have had posters with this sort of problem before. AIUI, the allergy
tends to show up as a need for large amounts of insulin when injected into
the fat layer but normal amounts when injected IV directly into the blood.
This fellow progressed beyond that and started to show skin reactions, et
al.

This fellow's problem was a bit different than most that I've read about.
At first, he wasn't allergic to regular human insulin, just NPH insulin.
As his problems progressed, he became sensitive to Human insulin, Humalog,
Novolog and Lantus.

They more or less** solved the problem by putting him on a insulin pump
using Novolog while they desensitized him using small doses of Novolog and
a steroid. They controlled his blood sugars during much of this time by
injecting IV human insulin.

(**By the end of the reported period, his insulin use had decreased from 5
x normal to 1.6 x normal but he was still taking steroids)

Regards
Old Al
