| | | Januvia I am having higher BG since I have been on the Januvia 100mg and Metformin
500mg a day. Yesterday, my fasting was like 130, and today after lunch 160.
I couldn't tolerate the Actos and the 1000mg of Met. a day, however, I am
sure not liking these higher numbers. I have not felt very good, so have
not been as active as I should be, but still, looking over the last month,
my BG is higher than the previous month, and I am still eating really
healthy, and trying to moderate how/what I eat.
Not too many people here on Januvia? Have not done alot of research since
it is still pretty new, but going to look into it, and talk with doc next
month.

Januvia is so new I really know nothing about it. Perhaps you need a higher
dose? I really don't know what the max dose is. The effective dose of
Metformin is 1500 daily and you're not on that much. I know you cut back on
it because the higher dose was making you sick. 500 mg is better than
nothing because it does offer other benefits besides BG control, but it's
probably not enough to affect your BG.
If you have not been feeling well that could be the cause of the higher
numbers. And while your numbers are higher than you want them, they're not
alarmingly high. Unfortunately a lot of Drs. would tell you that you are
doing well and would not add more meds. But you can try. |

Kris, try googling Frank (Jefferson) on here and mhd - I seem to
recall he was on Januvia; I'm not sure if he still is.
If you've been feeling under the weather, your numbers might have been
affected - particularly if you haven't been able to either be active
or take a higher dose of Metformin. You may simply need to be patient.
In the meantime, until you can exercise - you may need to moderate
your carbs, to avoid some more of those 160s.
Nicky.

higher numbers. Speak to your doctor so that he can prescribe some
other med besides the metformin.
Have you discussed byetta

I have been on Januvia for about 3 weeks and I also have seen higher
numbers lately.
Higher than I am comfortable with. I plan to stay the course for a
while and see what
happens. Previously, I was taking metformin/glyburide combo. 500/2.5.
The Dr. took
me off the glyburide and increased the met to 850.
Keep us updated.

| | | Re: Januvia Fasting BG this morning was 126...not excellent, however, better than the
160 from the other day. I am just going to watch it and document until my
next dr. appointment next month. I like not having side effects, however,
seems like I am having to watch my diet even closer. Guess there is always
pros and cons.
To answer Loretta - no, have not talked with dr. about byetta yet, but have
a friend on it that loves it.
Julie, wish I could tolerate the upper dose of Metformin...maybe I could try
"easing" up one more time. It would definitely benefit not only the
diabetes, but the pcos and weight loss too, which is TOTALLY sucking
considering how hard I am watching my diet!!!
Nicky, will check on that info you sent, and try watching my carbs...when I
have been down lately, my head has been in the ice box...hahaha
Burt, let me know how the Januvia is working for you too. I really like the
med, but I sure want to keep that 6.1 A1c I just got (or even lower)!
Thanks everybody!

After 120 days I discontinued Januvia. I could not see any change in my
blood glucose control with Januvia. With some meds there are some
nonresponders and often meds for diabetes work more effectively with
people that have higher A1c levels. My A1c was 5.8% before I started
with it. Jenny's A1c was as good or better than mine when she started
Januvia. She had improved blood glucose control almost immediately. She
discontinued the therapy because of it's immune system suppression.
DPP-4 is reversibly inhibited by Januvia. Since DPP-4 is an enzyme that
changes GLP-1 to it's inactive form, it's inhibition has some of the
same effect, but at a lower level, than Byetta. One blog site for
Januvia is at http://diabetes.blog.com/1162417/. (Most recent posts - http://diabetes.blog.com/1162417/?page=14#cmts or about 1400 posts.)

Yeah, I know that one - I now keep some almond flour double chocolate
muffins in the freezer. Nice and low on carbs, if pretty hard on the
calorie count. For some reason, I've never persuaded my brain that
anything low calorie counts as comfort food

Try my lower carb , nut crust lemon cheesecake. to me, truely a comfort
food:-) It even feels likd sin to eat it and if made with the lower fat
creamcheeses, is less hard on the calories too.
