Gumbo, I've noticed that the recipes you post on alt.food.diabetic are
extremely carby. Have you tested the effect of less starch and sugar on
your readings?

Susan beat me to it; it's a caring question, not being
nasty.

Have you ever tried testing an hour after you eat, and then
changing what you eat next time as a result?

Read this, it may help:

Your metformin dose isn't very high.
1500 is said to be the minimum EFFECTIVE dose and 2500 the max.
Explore the full potential of met before moving on ?

To reinforce what Susan posted:

Diabetics balance carb and meds: more carb = more meds. The problem we
have, however, is that it's too easy to "beat" the meds with more carb.

You can take up to 30 mg of Actos and up to 2500 mg of metformin so you have
a little bit of wiggle room there. Byetta and Januvia add to the effects of
Actos and metformin (though AFAIK, they have close to the same effect so
you only get to "pick one" [or your doc does]).

After that, it's insulin.

Seems simple but there's a hidden problem. More carb usually means more
work for your beta cells and for T2, that means more damage to them.
That speeds the Diabetes Progression towards total insulin dependency.
Umm. . .that's where I am and I suggest you won't like joining me.

OTOH, low carb + Actos + metformin + (Byetta or Januvia) = slower Diabetic
Progression.

To reinforce Peter C., I also suggest that you look at upping your
metformin dose into the recommended 1500-2500 mg/day range. You're asking
for a lot from that small dose you're taking now.

Regards
Old Al
