WOW!!! That debate went all over the place. I'm referring to 'When was
diagnosis made real' I decided to start a new thread to respond to some
of the responses. First a little history.
I was diagnosed in '98. I tried to take care of myself then, but the
insurance company wouldn't cover the stuff the doctor wanted me on. I was
probably running at a steady 300 at that time. Then I lost the job with
the insurance. For the last 5 years,I have done nothing about my
diabetes. No testing. No dieting. No Doctors. No nothing. It got worse.
1) I go to a free clinic here. I get most of my meds free. But there are
a few I have to pay for. They frequently complain that the companies send
them lots of free meters to give out, but little to no test strips. So
it's any ones guess if they'll have any. I've been out before. Testing
once a day beats not testing at all. And I have some in case I get to
feeling odd, and need to test more frequently. I work, but the company I
work for doesn't offer insurance. My husband doesn't work any more. There
is the possibility that he may be having seizures. But nothing is certain
as of this point. He's been researching, online, for test strip deals.
The problem is that the kind of cash it takes to get the deals, I don't
have. As soon as I'm sure we won't lose the house, I'll work on getting
strips so I can test more often.
2)Nicky,is it?? The thing about when you were a kid... Sounds about
right. I'm thinking of e-mailing my Aunt to see if she remembers anything
about me, at that time. But I don't hold out any hope that she would
remember, or even knew. All the family that may have known are dead. But
I do remember it all being for a short time. And I remember being a bit
upset when I couldn't have my 'special cookies' any more.
3) As for the A&W... The town I live in doesn't have one. The town where
I work, and where I was born, had one up until about a year ago. It is
currently being renovated into.... I forget right now. The thing I
remember about it was the 3 sizes of glass mugs. I loved the tiny baby
mugs.
If there's anything else I forgot to respond to, let me know...
