Default Lantus and constipation

I started Lantus in 6 months ago. Ever since starting it, I have had a very
bad problem with first bowel movement in the AM (where before all was great)
I know people don't like talking about moving their bowels, but we all do
it. Anyway, it is like trying to pass a baseball through an eye a of needle.
With all the straining, I know I am not doing myself any good.
I just want to see if anyone else has the constipation problem

I have not had any weight gain nor rashes with Lantus, if that helps anyone

Two recommendations besides more fiber:
First: a magnesium supplement--say 250 mg.
Second: water-only enemas--no chemicals

PS....For an added measure, buy some whole flax seed, grind it in a coffee
grinder, mix it with egg to make a pancake-like batter and then fry it for
breakfast with a little salt to taste.

Never apologise for bringing up a medical matter on a
medical newsgroup, mate:-)

I can't offer any advice at all relevant to Lantus. However,
my morning regularity improved dramatically when I changed
from eating cereal for breakfast to eating it as a bedtime
snack. It's not a big serve, three tablespoons of a mix of
muesli and nuts with enough milk to cover it, but I add
psyllium husk to it to increase the fibre content.

I'm type 2; it also improved my morning numbers a little.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

I was on Lantus for close to 16mons and never experienced constipation.
As it's a simulated hormone, Lantus shouldn't cause constipation. I would
look towards another medication or something that's changed in your diet.

There are lots of things that can help reduce constipation. I take Opates
and they are the worst for causing constipation. Either eating prunes
daily
or a salad a day usually helps for me.

Lantus never had any affect on me

Increasing my daily WATER intake helps me tremendously, and is my first
recommendation to my adult children when asked "Mom, what do I do?"

Trying over the counter products is another choice.
