Default Latest Blood test results

Finally got to talk to the person at my Dr.'s office to get the results
of my blood test from last week (we had been playing phone tag).

Tests taken May 3rd, 2007
bG - 92 (at time of test)
a1c - 10.7 (down from 14.2 taken April 8th, 2007)

LDL - 94 (don't yet have the numbers from the hospital visit)
HDL - 36 ""

Thyroid levels are all normal (didn't get a number)

Microalbuminuria - less than 5.0 (was told the range is 0 - 17)

My past 2 week bG levels are: 124.8
My past week bG levels are : 121.4

I started on AvandaMet this past Monday: 2mg/500mg 2x a day. Had
rumbling in the belly a few hours after the first on and a bit of
diarrhea, nothing else observable so far as to side effects.

Goal is to be off the insulin soon, maybe even within a month.

I have also backed off the Lantus by 5 units (down to 55 units from 60
units) nightly and still have bG levels of under 100 for my fasting
reading. Eating that just before bed snack really seems to help a lot in
controlling my fasting levels.

My Doctor had a bG reading from me from 1998 where my reading at that
time was 101, they didn't have any other reports available at the time
of our phone call (I moved to Germany in 1999 and returned in 2003, so
there will be a gap for that time period).

My weight is fluctuating a bit, lose a few, gain a few. Need to step up
my activity level more and my eyes have been getting better the past few
days.

Dale

Good improvement in the timescale - and also another
illustration that A1c is more influenced by recent BG levels
and not a three-month average as claimed by some.

Is that an average of all readings? If so, does it include
more post-prandials now that you are testing at your peak
after meals? If it does, you may have improved quite a lot.

Wrong goal, even if you succeed. The goal is to manage your
blood glucose system. If you can do that without insulin or
meds - great; I agree with minimal med use - but it's not
the goal.

How are you going with the test, test, test procedure?
http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm

If you are cutting various foods to reduce numbers, not
replacing them with equivalent calories can also help with
the weight loss.

A 4 point drop in A1c in one month is great! Keep up the good work.

From my limited experience, I would have to agree. I was drinking a
fair amount of Gatorade and fresh fruit juices the 10 days before I went
into the hospital - with a bG of 575, I think it was mostly that
previous 10 days that gave me a 14.2 A1C.

Yep. Hope to improve it without raising the LDL.

It does include all tests. Finally got my scripts sorted out today so
that I will get enough test strips to constantly test at that level.

The getting off insulin is more a matter of how much I hate needles and
blood then the actual insulin I am one of those that get light headed
when giving a blood sample. I have to admit I am doing far better with
the blood testing and shots than I ever expected I would.

Not up to 8 tests per day every day yet, the pharmacy would only
dispense a single box of 102 strips per month for me, which even at 4x a
day meant I would run out.

I am playing around a bit with food. I have discovered that I can't eat
a hot dog from CostCo - that will shoot my bG way up (ok, it shot it up
to 180) I was hungry and hadn't eaten for a few hours and was at CostCo,
so remembering that a hot dog was listed on my suggested snack list, I
had one. Bad idea.

Still, an A1c of 10.7 only a month after the out-of-control 14.2 is
almost meaningless. (The real status of BG control could be much
better than what the 10.7 indicates.) This is clearly a case in which
the doctor should order a fructosamine test, which is a better
indicator of BG control over the past 30 days.

Dale, all your numbers seem to be going in the right directions.

Nice slope : )

Get one. Might be important later.

Also cool. Next time you're in Costco - get a dog, throw away the
