Default A local feel-good story

In today's local paper was a story about a pre-school in the next suburb to
me that has two type 1 diabetic children enrolled. One is a girl 2 and a boy
3 and the pre-school have decided to run fund-raising events to raise
$17,000 to provide these two toddlers with a pump.

It is always nice to read of good things that are always going on,
rather than the gloom and doom which the US media likes to feed the
populace!!

Oh, we get the doom and gloom too but local, as opposed to national papers,
have a good share of these kinds of articles.

In the article it was mentioned that the toddlers were real little troupers
and never complained at all about being tested or injected.

They didn't say anything like that. It's their personal effort and they are
initially running a trivia night. Surprisingly, this will eventuate (the
pumps purchase). Most of the area is low income but people dig deep when it
comes to kids. There is a local indoor play place that will no doubt jump on
board. They allow fund raisers of this kind to "hire" their place for free
for discos. The staff work voluntarily and the entire funds from disco entry
goes to the fund-raiser.

A few years ago a little girl who lives in my "area" called the Central
Coast of NSW - population around 200,000 I think - left her insulin pump at
a theme park in Sydney. A local radio station put out a request for a "hunt"
of the theme park. There was lots of bushland in this park on many acres,
too much ground to cover for staff (whohad done a preliminary search). The
pump was found! Locals travelled to the theme park to take part in the
search. I love the way people rally to help others.

Like the unborn baby girl who needed surgery in the US while still in the
womb for a heart problem. The money was raised for the op, the plane fares,
accommodation and living expenses for the parents for I forget how many
months. The baby had to have follow-on surgery a while later to complete the
treatment and once again the local public came to the rescue.

Human nature is basically pretty good
