Default Long-Term Efficacy of Metformin Therapy in Nonobese Individuals with T2 Diabetes.

I read an interesting article at
www.medscape.com/viewarticle/549150?src=mp.
Basically it shows that in an observational prospective study (n=644
patients) in Australia where many "primary care physicians conform to
the prevailing clinical practice of using metformin as first-line
phamrmacologic treatment for obese diabetics and sulfonylureas for
nonobese subjects", sulfonylureas and metformin decreases similarly the
progression of microvascular complications in nonobese and normal
weight individuals with T2 Diabetes. They state that "there is evidence
that metformin not only performs well in the nonobese individuals but
might work even better in thin patients with type 2 diabetes.

Default Re: Long-Term Efficacy of Metformin Therapy in Nonobese Individuals with T2 Diabetes.

That is good news for me Larry. I am on metformin 500mg twice daily. I
weighed 220 at dianosis and now 180 and metformin is starting to take
my 2 hour glucose readings to 60 - 70. I have reduced my metformin
intake and I am hoping to use small doses for a long time. According to
my doctor, I should be able to remain at my current metformin regimen
for a good period of time if I don't beat my pancreas up with carbs.
