This is something you probably need to present to your Dr., probably today,
I have been on
Metformin for years am now on 1500 mg per day and haven't had
chest pains.
"A serious but rare side effect of metformin is lactic acidosis. Lactic
acidosis occurs in one out of every 30,000 patients and is fatal in 50% of
cases. The symptoms of lactic acidosis are weakness, trouble breathing,
abnormal heartbeats, unusual muscle pain, stomach discomfort,
light–headedness and feeling cold. Patients at risk for lactic acidosis
include those with reduced function of the kidneys or liver, congestive
heart failure, severe acute illnesses, and dehydration. "

Okay I've been taking lower doses of metformin (250-500mg) for a
while, a few months back I upped it to 2x500mg to control my BG even
more, however after a few days I started getting these rather severe
chest pains/cramps at night, even making it very hard to breathe! I
stopped metformin and they went away completely. A quick search
reveals a few other people experiencing this. I'd be curious what's
causing this (I was not having hypoglycemia), and what we can do about
it (except stopping the drug). Any info? thanks.
