Default New finding

New science shows marijuana prevents Alzheimer's. We really did know
what we were doing as kids. Maybe it's time to legalize it and start
smoking it again.

I think you must be exaggerating. A good friend and lifelong marijuana
user recently died from Alzheimer's. Perhaps you could tell us where
your news came from? Newspaper reports often exaggerate, and that's a
generous understatement.

Well lots of people die from lung cancer who never smoked too. Your good
friend is an exception, that don't invalidate the claim. It was a
science paper on THC; heard it on the news before it was censored.
Lots of things are like that you know. Hear it once and it's dead. The
government controls that you know. They can't stand to be wrong.

Hi Clyde

On censorship, a web-site that you should find very useful:
http://zapatopi.net/afdb/
It may makes more sense if you roll one first and light up
before you start reading. If you are not the practical "do
it yourself" type, you can buy one here:
http://tinyurl.com/h7pa4

And of course, you could also subscribe to alt.conspiracy.

Or you could do some searching on Google Scholar or Highwire
and you'll find plenty of papers unsuppressed by any
government. Such as http://tinyurl.com/k5p49 or
http://tinyurl.com/h69dz

Personally, I have difficulty understanding why I should
trade the possibility of a fuzzy mind in my distant future
for the certainty of a fuzzy dope-affected mind right now
coupled with all the disadvantages for the lungs and throat
from smoking any substance.

If the day comes when I may need it as an immediate
pain-killer, as Nancy (acoftil) did, that's a different
matter.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Hi Alan,

ROTFLMAO!! Love the afdb! I think cooking with the stuff (aluminium) was
implicated in Alzheimer's too... perhaps a self-contained cooking apparatus
after your brain is fried?

As you rightly state, however there are valid reasons for it's
use...marijuana that is ;-)

Best Wishes,

Dear Everyone, Please accept my apologies if the humour I saw in the link in
Alan's post was misinterpreted by some to be an uncaring response to the
demise of Chris' friend. This was in no way intended. I have written Chris
off list to apologize also.

That's irrelevant. We're talking about prevention, not causation.

> Your good
> friend is an exception, that don't invalidate the claim.

It does invalidate a claim of "prevents". It doesn't invalidate a
claim of "reduces the risk" or "helps to prevent". The difference is
important.

The news may have been censored, but if it was a science paper it must
already have been published, and you can't censor what has already
been published. Since tobacco use slightly reduces the risk of
Alzheimer's, and marijuana smokers often also smoke tobacco with it,
it would be a difficult epidemiological survey to get clear results
from.
