Default Not So Newbie anymore

Hi People. I came here last December when I was diagnosed with Type
II. I was scared and I was reaching out for some help, which several
of you did give to me. Well, 5 months later, I just wanted to brag a
bit about my results.

Tests 11/2006

A1C=10.8
Cholesterol - 173
HDL -30
LDL - 101
Tryglyceride- 263

Weight=246 lbs

Tests 4/2007

A1C=5.6
Cholesterol - 120
HDL -34
LDL - 71
Tryglyceride- 95

Weight=205 lbs

It's amazing what a change in how I eat & much more excercise (I was a
real coach potato, now I do at least 2 miles walking on my treadmill 4
times a week)

Thank you all for your support back in December.

It seems the more scared we are when we're newbies, the
more motivation we have to take control. As a newbie
I was in the same state as you were and the folks here were
a fantastic help.

But in the end it is all you, Kasey ... it's your hard work
and willingness to change your mindset that is paying off.

Good Stuff.

cheers

Paul

Be careful with that exercise!
That's how I started -- a couple of miles on the treadmill a few times a
week.

Now I'm a regular participant at numerous road races around the area.
My longest race has been 1/2 marathon; I've also done a few 10-milers.
Most are in the 5-10k range.
I'm not fast, but reasonably respectable for my age/gender group.

I don't know if it's a hobby or an addiction, but it sure is fun -- even if
it does mean getting up & going somewhere in the pre-dawn darkness
sometimes. (and I earn a lot of extra treats this way.)
:-)

Hi Kasey

I hope you don't mind; I played around with your numbers to
show just how impressive that effort was:

Nov-06 Apr-07 Change
A1C 10.8 5.6 -5.2
Cholesterol 173 120 -53
HDL 30 34 +4
LDL 101 71 -30
Tryglyceride 263 95 -168
Trigs/HDL 8.8 2.8 -6
Weight 246 205 -41

Wow!!

Okay - time to tell us more on how you did it. And it
doesn't matter if you agree with us - what you did obviously
worked brilliantly for you.

Do you intend to change anything now that you are moving
from the weight loss phase to the "maintenace" phase?

Congratulations again.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Well...1st of all...Now that I am back on my own computer..I don't know why
my original post does not show up on my newsreader(along with plenty of the
responses I saw on Google, but what the heck)

What I have done is simple...I watched my carbs and exercised. I eat a lot
less due to the fact I am not snacking anymore since I can't find anything I
like to snack on that is low on Carbs except sugar free Jell-O. I am not
Atkins crazy low carbs but I am limiting them in my meals. I still enjoy
Pizza every so often, but a lot less of that than I used to have. I have
cut out almost all bread (and I do miss that) from my diet, as well as the
cakes and pastries I used to eat all the time. I watch what foods affect by
Blood Sugar and watch my levels. My morning fasting numbers are
consistently under 80 and I am trying to keep them there. Yes, I am hungry
, but I know that what I am doing is good for me. My height is 5" 7"" so I
can afford to still lose some more weight, so I am not "maintenance" mode
yet. While I have had a few setbacks in my exercise program, (A sprained
ankle last week has kept me off the treadmill for the last week ....I plan
to start up again today), that has been an important part of my plan. I am
now weighing 202 this morning. I have not seen 200 since High School (and I
am 49). When I get below 200, I am not sure how I going to maintain. My
eating style has definitely changed. I'm not going back there. My exercise
has changed. I am not going back there. I guess I will just keep going
with what I am doing and see where it goes from there.

Thanks. I sympathise for the ankle pain, I used to do them
much too often. And congratulations again.
