    Default OT/ A Bluesy Mood

    Hello friends,

I am in a bluesy mood tonight... At the moment, I am listening to a
bit of Roy Buchanan playing "Ramon's Blues". Sorry no videos or sound
with this one, but many of you would really, really like it.... Sadly,
Roy left us a while back.

Here is a sample of some of his other work....

One last one from Roy Buchanan... You guys let me know if you ever
want to do Newport, New Orleans, DC, or Palm Beach.... I get out to
Denver sometimes, but not always that much.

We could have a really good time!

For you jazz musicians out there... Do you notice any similarities
between this piece and the traditional classic St. James Infirmary?

yep... but there are still some similarities.

I was thinking mainly in the sense of inspiration. There is no
question about it... Roy Buchanan had a true gift from the gods.

Do you ever sit around with the piano or guitar, John, and just play
what comes into your head? I think that must have been what he was
doing when he came up with that... except he very much knew what he
was doing, whereas I am just fooling around, and not nearly as skilled
in technique.... In jazz, my main instrument was trombone, although I
have played piano for years. Guitar for me is strictly a sideline,
    although I can do it.

Someday, maybe I will tell you how it was that I came to be a lawyer,
    and not a musician.

    I have heard that before...

Thanks, John. It was great listening. I think some aspect of that
great music must have been connected with you in some way.

Don' t think you have to respond to me on here. My email posted in all

Once in a while I'd "get into it" but mostly it was my job. Just what I did
for a living and that was all. I played valve trombone. I had a slide but
never learned anything other that some specialty things with it for show.
The only thing I was ever really, really good at was sax... as far as all
the other instruments.. I just learned what I needed to know to use them. I
was highly criticized by "purist" musicians who hung around the
clubs....they hung around cause they were always out of work... they thought
the business was about playing well....haha.
