Default OT: service

.... by way if being a "butt cheek loosener" ...

Having been in the USA several times, and having had
the dubious pleasure of shopping there, I find that of
the countries I have visited, the USA is close to the top
in 'service' ..
Having said that ...

At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on
the meaning of the word "service". The act of doing
things for other people. Then I heard these service
terms:

Internal Revenue Service,

Postal Service,

Civil Service,

Telephone Service,

Service Stations,

A O L Service Desk,

Customer Service,

City/County Public Service.

And I became confused about the word "service.
This is not what I thought "service" meant.

Then one day, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of
them mentioned that he was having a bull service a few
of his cows.

SHAZAM!! It all came into perspective. Now I understand
what all those "service" agencies are doing to us...

LOL, one of the many things I love about France is the lack of a
"service" mentality by waiters, shop clerks, etc. Tipping is not the
de rigeur thing it is in the US although there's an art to rounding up
the bill, and I probably still do overtip there. What I liked is
that, while courteous, so-called service workers seemed they could
care less. Very refreshing.

Evey so once in a while, you discover one who really
does care about service, you tip him nicely and you
remember to return before you fade from his memory ...

such is the rarety !

Is it any wonder that so many of our youth want to be "servicemen" ?
When I was 18, I would have thought that sounded like a pretty good
kind of job! ;-)
