Default OT/Tomas Luis de Victoria- Bokeback Mountain- O Vos Omnes

Hello friends,

Anyone ever see the movie, "Brokeback Mountain". Well, here is
something fabulous that you might enjoy....

Victoria is probably my all-time favorite late Renaissance
composer... He grew up in Avila, Spain.

Worth watching for you music diehards and totally liberated people...

For those of you who like music from the late Renaissance, I would
urge you to listen to "Nigra Sum" by Victoria.... One of the versions
I have on CD is by the Tallis Scholars." Nigra Sum" is based upon the
Song of Songs.... an absolutely unforgettable piece of music, once you
have heard it.

In Latin, "nigra sum" literally means "I am black".... (To see the
whole Latin text, just look up the Latin Vulgate, or I can send it to
you upon request.)

Sadly, it is not available on YouTube, and I do not know how to let
you hear it directly, without getting into potential trouble.

Thanks, I did not know about that... Is this Lorna?

Anyway, I just checked it out, and discovered that the Tallis files
seem to be MIDI files... Is that right? Or, am I doing something
wrong?

Gotta watch out for that limewire in the U.S., Peter... About 5,000
college kids got busted last month and charged hefty fines.

Yes, you are right, though... It seems that that Limewire is a vast
source. It is really based upon the P2P idea, which has been ruled
illegal here in the U.S. Since you are in Australia, and don't have to
worry about getting busted as much, you might want to try the torrent
site piratebay based in Sweden... Even with torrent sites, though,
some copyright holders and agencies monitor the traffic, and can track
you down instantly... Just be careful. As you know, torrents work with
the file swapping idea, also,... you are expected to balance downloads
with uploads requested from others.

I stay away from all that stuff these days.... YouTube somehow seems
to be different and falll into a broadcast category, so it is legal.
Similarly, I have some programs that can convert streaming audio to
mp3 files, it is just a little more laborious to come up with what you
want, and the sound quality is not always that good.

Sounds like very nice music you snagged, though...

I listened to the Byrd Mass for 5 voices just yesterday.
