Default OT Weather

My mother was due to arrive today, to stay for the about 3 weeks. Her
flight was canceled because of bad weather at the Denver airport. She
isn't sure when she can get another flight. She said with the wind
chill it was about zero outside with blowing snow in Denver.

Here in southern California the weather is beautiful. If was cold last
night, about 40 but has warmed up to sunny and 62, great jogging
weather. May go to the base for a good work out later.

Most of eastern Colorado is suffering from a freaking blizzard. Four
foot drifts, winds gusting to 40-50 mph, whiteout conditions. Major
highways closed. The National Guard called out with HumVees to rescue
stranded people. Info from Denver news on tv. I am out on the prairie
myself and snowed in. Even my dog can't get out! Well, I was wanting
snow for Christmas! Just not this kind of weather.

I hope you have plenty of emergency supplies and a backup way to heat
your house. Years ago when I lived in Denver, we lived in the suburbs.
I can remember being snowed in a few times. Sometimes I miss the snow,
it was beautiful but did cause a lot of problems. Where I live now I
can drive up to the mountains, about 45 minute drive and play in the
snow, than drive home where it never snows.

My mom is lucky she found out her flight was canceled before she went
to the airport. She might have got snowed in at the airport.

Weather is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. After it stops blowing and
warms to the 20's or so, I much rather be in Denver with two feet of snow
that socal. I GROOVE on snowshoeing - been plenty cold here in southeasten
Idaho, but not much snow yet. I spent 30 years in the desert southwest,
and if I never see another high temp above 60 it would not break my heart.
I am looking forward to some ice fishing and volunteering at the local
Nordic center this winter.

My mom has canceled her plans to get here for Christmas. After
watching the news and talking to the Airline people, she don't want to
take a chance. She has a reservation for next Thursday and if the
weather cooperates will be here for New Year.

Now that she is not coming for Christmas, we can have a more T2
friendly dinner. DH has not been following his diet very well. I
scanned through his meter and found a lot of numbers over 200. Because
he don't test as often as I think he should, this may only be the tip
of the iceburg. I don't want to be the BG/diet police, been there done
that, but I want him to take better care of himself. I think he is
just worring about me and the baby and ignoring his own health. I
believe the best thing he could do for me and the baby is to keep
tight control of his BG so he will be with us a lot longer.

The storm is over but we are buried under tons of snow. and the News
said the airport won't be open until maybe tomorrow afternnoon. They
said thousands were stranded at the airport, and today sent in city
buses to take many to hotels. But even if the airport does get open
tomorrow, there is another storm coming in tomorrow evening. Not as
bad, though.

I am well fixed for food and water and the amenities. My heating
source is a wood stove with plenty of firewood. although my son found
it a real challenge this morning getting it. He had to dig through a
six foot drift to get to the wood shed! That was after crawling over a
wide five foot drift to get there. When this all melts our water table
is going to be greatly replenished after years of drouth.

I don't like the summer temps either. 65-70 is about right. As for
snow, all these 4-8 foot drifts are a little more than I care for! We
will be snowed in for days before somone digs us out, presuming
someone digs out the back country roads any time soon.

Good. She will miss all the big drifts and digging out and the melting
and chaos, plus the second storm coming in.

Good luck for a tasty and tempting diabetic diet for DH.
