| | | Other people with I recently got a prescription from my doctor, authorizing that I test
7-8 instead of 4 times a day (a good thing, you would argue). I got
the prescription over to my pharmacy and they got back to me saying
that the insurance company had declined it, because larger amounts of
supplies needed to be handled through THEIR mail order pharmacy and
not my regular pharmacy: is something wrong with this or what?
I mean, who are insurance companies to decide HOW one should be taking
care of diabetes? Plus, shouldn't it be in their best interest (I
realize not... answering my own question) that we be healthier?
Here's a bit of a rant I wrote on TuDiabetes.com about this: http://tudiabetes.com/profiles/blog/...ogPost%3A25684

That's the way some insurance companies work. Some people have to get all
of their prescriptions through mail order. |

Insurance companies routinely limit their costs
by restricting their insured's choices. Wether
you're restricted to a list of participating doctors
in a PPO or perhaps ordering prescriptions from
"their" pharmacy ... it's pretty routine these days.

I believe they are not being right with you but that is how alot of
insurance companies are. A doctor I once went to told me insurance would not
pay either but I talked with the insurance company and they said they would
pay for whatever I needed. I am now on Medicare and they pay for it now.

I agree. Yet they want to complain that diabetes is one of the higher cost
to insurance companies yet if we can't test then we can't get into control
and that is when other diabetes health issues come up including diabetes
related hospital stays.

Nope I don't think you are alone either :-)
Best of health to you. |

| | | Re: Other people with I can only get supplies from mail order thru my insurance, but once you
are set up, they call every 90 days, and say, what do you need. It's
really easy. They'll even send batteries for the meter. I have no
complaints. |

it depends on the quantity being prescribed and the provider. I can
get any amount so long as it is for a 30 day supply at my local
pharmacies. If I get anything for a longer period of time (next block
up is 90 days) I have to go mail order.
I get 300 test strips for 30 days, so I get them locally.

| | | Re: Other people with I really dont know what you are carrying on about. I have mail order
supplies and so do all my diabetic friends. I get my supplies every two
months, They are always on time and you get them whenever you run out.
All you do is call the company and they send them to yo. Yes, there is
a little work up front, You need to mail the prescription in. Then they
call you to see if you still have strips.
It is very convenient, easy and you dont have to shlep the boxes. I get
ten boxes at a time.
You are lucky you have insurance that even covers the costs of testing
supplies. You probably have no idea how much they cost.
I am sorry if I sound harsh, but this is something I dont think needs to
be complained about. jmo
Insurance companies are there to make money, not lose and by sending
away it is cheaper than buying retail.

For sure! And there are even more (myself included) who share this
predicament:
"That is why I test when I can afford and don't currently see a Dr. at
all"
Take care |

Nope. You're most certainly not alone.
A great many more diabetics share this predicament:
"That is why I test when I can afford and dont currently see a Dr at
all." |

No. They didn't say you can't have the strips,
they just want you to get them in a way that saves
money and therefore (we hope, probably in vain)
allows you and others to pay lower premiums.
