Julie,

How long ago was that C-Peptide test? The way you were producing
insulin then and the way you're producing it now may not be the same
given that you were producing so much then, perhaps you've about
burned it out? With numbers like what you've had recently, there's
got to be something going on. Who knows? There could be a little
tumor or something in there causing something goofy.

I wonder if someone could have both type 2 and diabetes insipidus (I
think I spelled it wrong) at the same time?

I'd have to look it up for sure but probably something like almost 3 years
ago.

Might have been a change in three years. You might ask your doc about
it.

Just a thought.

Are you still running in the 300's? What's the suggested BG for going
to the ER? Do you have someone that could get you to the ER and take
care of Angela? You can't be feeling at all well. I take it this is
a civilian doc and not a military doc?

Yes. DI is due to pituitary dysfunction. I had it last year. It's an
anterior pituitary hormone.

You can have lots of endocrine dysfunction at the same time, it's hard
not to.

Oh, I'm convinced that one endocrine dysfunction leads to another.
My father in law had a pituitary tumor and then about 5 years later
developed hypo-thyroid, then his adrenals pooped out, and then came
T2.

The man rattled when he walked he was on so many different meds.
He finally succumed to congestive heart failure. Imagine the shock
for my MIL when she discovered him sitting on the toilet, naked as the
day he was born and dead. She thought he'd fallen to sleep. (He could
sleep anywhere).

This is like the pot calling the kettle black, but I agree with Laura. *s*
Plus, you know I've been there with the military/civilian doctor bit, but I
do not like having 300s even with insulin to bring it down quickly. Phooey,
didn't even like the 200s when having to wait it out for the numbers to come
down. *To me* a 200 is a lot different for someone who has insulin at their
disposal, than when you have no control as in your situation. Been there a
lot, and it is no fun; that's one reason why I am on insulin today. No Type
II meds could/would control me, and I was eating a very strict diet in
itself.

Instead of waiting, Julie, maybe it is time for you to call him, or make
that trip to the ER. You've got a lot of *stuff* going on with your body as
it is.

Comforting, Laura! LOL You been listening to me when I walk?

Yes, people with pit tumors and Cushing's invariably develop both hypo
and hyperglycemia, even without insulin resistance.

Oh, what a way to go! I'm hoping for a more dignified end. Even with a
pit tumor and Cushing's, my diet has helped me keep my A1c under 6%. I
also have one abnormal adrenal gland I've just learned. I know I have
to act and get the tumor lateralized and surgically resected before I
end up with thyroid problems, etc, too. Most folks with Cushing's end
up dying from CVD and other complications of uncontrollable DM.

Was 227 at two hours after dinner. Tested again about an hour after that
and down to 130. Then an hour later at 92. About an hour and a half later,
78. I don't think they'd do much for you in the ER with a BG of 300. I
think they'd just tell you to call your Dr.

My Dr. is a civilian Endo. He is said to be the best in the area. He's
just not all that prompt at getting back to you. I had to call him once
before on a Monday and I didn't get a reply until Wed. I actually feel okay
today. Felt really exhausted yesterday and spent most of the day in bed.
Then there was the puking early this morning. But I really think that was
GERD more than anything else. I can't really raise the head of my bed like
they say to do because I have to keep my feet elevated for the bad veins in
my legs and I don't fancy sleeping in a "V" shape. Mainly I am just very
hungry and afraid to eat anything. Because of the gastroparesis and food
allergies, most of the low carb and protein options are out of the question.
I don't dare eat anything that might make me puke again.

I'll try calling again tomorrow if I wake with high numbers again. But I
already know he is out of the office Tues. afternoons and does not return
calls made that day until Wed. I doubt that the ER would help me since my
BG is currently 78.
