Default PING: Julie re: LADA

Julie, I seem to remember you saying you also suffer from
hypothyroidism. Is it Hashimoto's, the autoimmune version?

The reason I ask is that autoimmune hypothyroidism (along with other
autoimmune diseases) is one of the markers for possible LADA. Others
are other family member with autoimmune diseases, normal body weight
when Dx'd with diabetes and low C-peptide levels.

At first, my endo suspected LADA with me because I had several of the
signs. Subsequent antibody testing ruled it out i.e. I'm a run of the
mill T2 D

The upshot is: Antibody testing is the only way to find out if it's
LADA. If it is LADA, insulin therapy is recommended ASAP to possibly
preserve any remaining beta cell function. INSIST on this testing to
the point of being a nag about it.

I did have a thyroid problem. Currently have a goiter, but thyroid is in
range. No cause was ever found (or looked for) with my thyroid, which was
rather annoying to me. I have also been hyperthyroid, but it seems by
cutting out goitrogenic foods, it is in range.

My C-Peptide was high when tested about 3 years ago. But I suppose that can
change.
