Default Ping Madison

Dear Madison
I read your pain in your notes to Mack, and I am moved to share my
story with you. I too have been suicidally depressed at points in my
life. I am now 53, and have had severe depression off & on since I was
a child. Back in the 1950's, 60's & 70's there wasn't the awareness of
childhood depression that we have now, so other than talk therapy and
some inappropriate medicines, my depression was untreated. I did have
some happy times, but the stupid fog always came back.
When I was in my 30's severe depression struck with a vengance.
Despite a nice husband, 2 wonderful children, a job I liked and a
generally good life, I wanted to die. It got so bad that I began
having auditory hallucinations - voices telling me that my children
would be much better off if I was dead because my essence was poisoning
them. OY! I ended up in my first psychiatric hopsital stay, and began
getting good medicines and excellent talk therapy. It took a total of
11 years of talk therapy, 4 hospital stays, actually taking the
medicine my doctor prescribed, and getting clean & sober off drugs &
alcohol (which I used as self treatment) to get to where I am now. IT
WAS ALL WORTH IT. I wish I could give you the lightness of heart, the
joy in life and the intense gratitude that I have today that I did not
die. Life gets better. A phrase I was taught in my first funny farm
stay has stuck with me: "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary
problem". Trite maybe, but true.
My mother killed herself nearly 13 years ago at age 63 after a lifetime
of incorrectly and un-treated depression. I wish I could share with
you the agony her death caused all of us who cared for her, especially
my sister. Suicide is the ultimate "fuck you" to the people who care
for you. It is an unanswerable statement. In my pain during my
depression, ending all feelings was what I wanted, but I didn't realize
that I would have been transferring that pain to my loved ones.
If it would help you to talk privately with someone who has been
through the pain of wanting, craving death, please email me at
sharppointy1@yahoo.com. I would be happy to share my experience,
strength and hope with you.

The only thing that can help us overcome depression, anxiety, and/or
panic is love.

Love never fails.

May GOD continue to heal our hearts with HIS living water so that we
will be able to love others just a little bit more, dear Barbara whom I
love unconditionally.

Prayerfully in Christ's amazing love,

Andrew <><

As for knowing who are the very elect, these you will know by the
unconditional love they have for everyone including their enemies
(Matthew 5:44-45, 1 Corinthians 13:3, James 2:14-17).

i thing thoughts like this are very common among teens.
I know I have been there and thought about it many times as a kid.

I wonder how many others here can say the same thing.

I also wonder how many others here that live with not only the trouble of
illness but also intenst pain and glad that they are still here.

With all the troubles Madison may have that will seem less and less trouble
some as her life goes on. Madison is a very good looking young lady and i
would not be suprised at all if there are girls in her school that think
would trade their life for Madisons. there are probaby also lots of guys
that would love to ask her out but are to shy cause of how pretty she is. I
know i wish i was 35 years younger lol.

sometimes the troubles we face in life make us much better people and highly
respected.
One day she will have kids and a loving husband and think about how lucky
she is.

i had a friend of mine that was being charged for a murder he did not
commit. he also thought about killing himself. can you amagine spending
most of your life in jail for something you didnt do? its funny because
some how i feel that our talks way back when are part of the reason he is
still here today and when i was in my teens his friendship that was tighter
than a brothers is one of the reasons I am also here.

she should also be thinking about how this is hurting her mother and father.
they must be going crazy thinking about this.

I know my web site isnt all that much but if there is something she would
like to say to other young type 1's I would be happy to put it there.
or perhaps making her own web site would help her.

I'm going to stick my neck out here a wee bit.. Personally I think
depression
IS BULLSHIT! it's a phucking cop-out for the WEAK... Am I weak? Hell yes at
times.. can I show it? Hell no! my mom would have kicked my ass to the moon
and back. Am I lucky that I had a hell of a support system at home growing
up?
Yes... But I've also learned a great deal on my own while growing up.

Is depression a mother not able to hold her child because of intense pain?
Is depression a mother missing her childs sports activities or school
activities
because of intense pain?
Is depression because you're unable to work and your husband loses HIS job
because the bills are behind?
Is depression the inability to make love with your husband because of
intense pain?
For more several years.....
Is depression the tremendous GUILT you carry daily because your husband has
to
work harder the other men to be able to by YOUR medication for YOU to
LIVE!?!
Is depression the tremendous GUILT you carry daily because you've passed on
your
shitty ass genes to your child who also has an autoimmune disease?

I could go on... believe me there is MUCH MORE.... but those are the
highlights off
the top of my head... I'm no worse for wear. What unfortunately hasn't
killed me
has only made me stronger.... and knowing there is someone out there worse
off
then I am... makes me grateful for what I have... And from what others have
posted
I still have it worse it appears.. .*geeze!* Buck up, wipe the snot off and
get on with
your life..

Dangerously ignorant and gratuitously unkind.

As usual.

I hope Madison is able to ignore this and that no harm comes to her as a
result of it.

Sheesh.

Are you talking about your posts to Julie Bove in M.H.D. recently?
Then I'd have to agree with you.

Instead of insults, why not post a rebuttal if you disagree with what
Reisa posted. I notice that insulting is the m.o. in this group when
someone posts an "opinion" that goes against the majority thinking.

Hi Madison,

This is just a quick note to let you know that very many of us are "in your
corner" and pulling for you... Depression can be debilitating, and anyone
who has ever suffered from real depression knows that. Also, I can attest
that it is a real source of heartache for parents and family members to see
a child or loved one suffer from its effects. Some aches just will not go
away easily.

I am very glad that you seem to be getting the help you need. There is no
shame in what has happened in your life. I am just happy for you that you
are now on the mend. If there is ever anything I can do or say that may
make a positive difference for you, please let me know...

Will, T2

And, it smacked of little or no education from any source when it comes to
mental illness, depression & suicide.

It disgusted me.

And, I've worked really hard at staying out of the food throwing wars here

Hi, Kate --

I feel so silly. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why you
were saying that to Barbara! I finally scolled down to see what was
going on and found the posts I missed.

I guess when she complains, she's expressing an opinion, but when
anyone else does it, they are whining. The funny thing about growing
up is learning self-control and that the world doesn't revolve around
you. Looks like there's still some work to be done there.

I have a few of those t-shirts myself -- perhaps we can all get
together and sponsor a baseball team? We'd already have the uniforms!

self-esteem in light of such ignorance!

Hi, Kate --

I'm with you. It was a shock to say the least. Not only the actual
words, but the many implications from posting something like that, not
the least of which is the fact that it was aimed at that young lady!

But the upside is that it gives a keen insight into the person who
posted it in the first place. And it's even worse than I feared. I'm
just hoping Madison can see it that way -- since she's obviously much
more mature, I'm sure she'll be okay.

Have you ever heard of crossing the line Reisa? Posting an opinion on
someone elses post is one thing, posting things that people have told
you in private, no matter when it was, or how you feel about that
someone now, is a whole different story, and crosses that line IMO. I
think it would be helpful if you took a good look at posts like this
before hitting the send button. :-(

Oh yeah, I'm definitely a low carber, and I'm a low carber...because it
helps ME keep control, though it might not work for others. I always
tell the diabetics I know about LC and Jennifers' advice as a starting
point, whether they try it or not is up to them. I think the ADA serves
a purpose, especially in providing links to resources for diabetes
related things, but I don't think their dietary guidelines are up to
date at all. Personally, I have no use for the ADA diet wise, but others
may, and more power to them. Whatever works. :-)

Hey Reisa
It's too bad that you have challenges in your life that cause you pain.
Attacking others who are reaching out to someone else in pain hardly
seems like a kind thing to do. Do I think I'm weak? Not a chance. Do
I think you're mean? You bet. Hijacking a thread aimed at a young
woman who needs help is pretty low.
