About 50 years ago, when I was in the Army, I was given my first flu shot.
I got terribly ill, but still had to complete the daily exercises and drills
regardless of how horrible I felt. I told my D.I. I was sick and needed to
go on sick call, but he thought I was not really all that sick and would not
allow me to go. I was very sick for several days.
I have not had another flu shot since, but I have never had the flu since
then either. Now that I'm a "Senior Citizen" I'm urged every year to get the
shot by my doctors and my friends. I'm thinking about getting one this year
because this has not been a very good year for me health-wise, but I have
not fully made-up my mind as yet.
