I'd try these things:
1. more carb in the snack (two scones?)
2. less carb in the snack (replace the scone with some cheese?)
3. some protein added to the snack (replace the butter with some cheese)
4. taking the
metformin an hour before you see this happens
I realize metformin is supposed to be built-up in your body over time,
but some folks seem to see a more immediate response and since it works
primarily by it's effect on the liver, I don't see a big downside there
to trying it.
Despair is not a good option!
However, you have to do what you *can* do. Sometimes, goals may have to
be loosened up a bit.
Before
insulin, I could never get my fastings down below 120-140 and
tried all the different cures for DP without success. Eventually, I
decided to just focus on my postprandials cause I *could* do something
about that and worrying about the fastings wasn't helping anything.
Not that you shouldn't try to fix this, if you can - great. But if you
can't, that's no cause for despair.
