Microsoft, Macromedia, Adobe all have people posting in usenet.
some even carry the company in their sig.
i think to say bernstein or atkins is above that are either very gullible or
not very truthful.

very limited yes. but there are many places on usenet that talk about diet
and others that talk about health. there are also hundreds if no thousands
of other places on the internet.
lets face it. it doesnt take much time to go into a group and spam while
looking like you are just a member.

another way to spam is simply ask a question about a book knowing the type
of replies you will get.
its pretty easy to know what the replies will be for the following question.

Yes, I can recommend a couple of good books for you. Have you read
Atkins or Bernstein? No? I suggest you buy them, rather than get them at
a library. It's so hard running back and forth every time you need a
question answered, and you'll want to have several copies of each, one
for each room. ;-)
