| | | Solved the high fasting levels. Well, i tried taking various pre sleep snacks in an attempt to reduce my
overnight levels from rising so high. Over the past 3-4 months i haven't
seen a morning level under 12, (except on teh occasion the solution
occours)
So after posting a request for sugestions i tried various small snacks
before retiring. Everything from nuts, to peanut butter (yuck) to corn
chips yadda yadda yadda ...
The one thing that fixes the problem is..Red Wine.
Doesn't seem to matter if its a Penfolds 707 or some cask wine from
Stanley.. It has the same effect.
For the past 4 days by highest morning level has been 7.2 (much better than
12+
I am actually seeing drops overnight and not increases.
And it appears to be in proportion to the amount i consume ?
On the evening when we hade a bit of a do out here, (and yes i did get into
the red quite a lot) my levels before bed were 9.8 and at waking 5.3
This morning 7.2 (only had 2 glasses last night while chatting with the
missus.
Not sure of the long term effects of 2-3 galsses of red a night ? but damn
my bg chart is looking a lot better.
Well, off for a drive to town to stock up on medicine.. some bottled and
some casked.
Regards

Generally beneficial - should help your cholesterol levels, amongst
several other things : ) As a male, a couple's supposed to be your
limit; one's mine.

Only on your BG's, not on your palate:-)
Glad you found a solution.
If you'd like to send me all your 707, any year, I'll send
you an equal number of four litre Stanley Cab-Shiraz - or
any other cask flavour you like. I'll pay the freight. I'll
even make it two casks and throw in a 2004 SEA cleanskin
(same offer applies to 389:-)

It's worth remembering that bg/diabetes isn't the only thing we should be
concerned with.

Alan.. I take it after reading the article, one should enjoy a glass or 8
and be merry.
Sounds better advice than anything my flamin doctor has given me.
If i'm gonna go, i'd rather go with a glass of red, than 2 lettice leaves
and a handfull of nuts.
PS: I only have 3 bottles of '89 707 left... Mind you i do have quite a few
138's (the granache shiraz and mouvedre) now thats a nice drop, and my all
time favourite 1992 Brown Brothers Cab Sav Monduse... (down to the last
bottle of that one).
So all in all this Diabetes stuff doesn't look to bad. If my MA levels can
stay in the low 7's or better, i'll have a reasonable A1C and all will be
happy.
PPSS: Stocked up on 1/2 a dozen Stanley Cab Savs and 3 Morris "the
Pressings" That should tide me over for a while.

Still got to figure out why you were in the 9s before bedtime, and fix
it... but yes, I find diabetes is compatible with my lifestyle : )

Congrats on finding something that works. Trial and error can be very
frustrating, but the rewards are great when you find a solution.
Although, with diabetes there will be days when it does what it wants
anyway. But hopefully those days are few and far between.

Well, not quite "a glass or 8", I survive on about a
half-bottle a day.
The last 707 I tasted was a '92 back in '02 at a dinner with
my son and his new girlfriend. Lovely drop that, also had
other benefits - the happy couple are now the parents of our
3yo grand-daughter:-)
These days I waste my money wandering around strange
countries so I restrict other expenses; I've learnt to be
fairly good at picking cleanskins instead of expensive
Penfolds bin numbers. And when I find a rough one it's
usually time to make another batch of beef burgundy anyway.
Glad it helped solve your dawn problem.

Bit of a YMMV here, I find the wine with the evening meal has an
immediate improvement on the BG and I'm sure has been one of the
factors in the long term improvement of my BP and lipids.
However (maybe because I don't get the DP) drinking it at night leads
to only one outcome: my wee niffs of ketones in the morning. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
