Default Some good news

Doing the happy dance!

Went to the doc today, and I have lost 9 more lbs. I am down 28 lbs since
last February. I am on 10 mcg. Byetta, twice a day, and no other diabetes
drugs, and my A1C is back down to 5.9. Fasting that day was 110.

Hubby, on the other hand, was up to 6.3 and the doc wants him to start on a
diabetes drug of some kind. My husband was a little hesitant to do that, so
the doc suggested he take cinnamon for a while, watch his diet better, and
report back in a couple of months.

Evelyn

I didn't know your husband was diabetic as well. Hope he can work with the
cinnamon. It raised my BG.

Has is that Byetta?? I just started last week on the 5 mcg. So far
it's been okay, my dr. wants to me to go on 10 mcg next month if the
5 mcg goes okay..... So far no real problems but I've heard that the
10 mcg is harder on the tummy. I also take Actos plus metformin 15mg/
500mg. Hopefully I can lose some lbs. too.... Take care.

Best wishes there. First time I've heard of a doc
prescribing cinnamon. Bit odd.

way to go!
Just tell hubby to test and see when he is high for a day and see if maybe a
diet change at that time will help fix it ..and or exercise...if not maybe a
low does med that time help and prevent anything future happining.

Appeal to his mr spock logic..lol.

Hi Diana,

I had long despaired of reaching my goal, which is still a good way off, but
it is so nice to be losing weight gently, the way I am. I am not actively
dieting, nor am I depriving myself of anything, but the Byetta does have an
influence on my hunger, and I am satisfied with less food. It is a very
good thing!

He's had a couple of high blood tests, and the doc did not want to actively
label him as diabetic, but since he knows I am diabetic, he probably assumes
I will go ballistic about it, which I did! Hubby is on a diet, as of NOW!
I will try the cinnamon. By the way, did you know there are a couple of
different kinds of cinnamon? There is true cinnamon bark and Cassia, which
we call cinnamon. Complicated. How does one know which one, one is
getting?

It is absolutely the Byetta. I am the poster child for Byetta, if one goes
by my results. :-)
I had to give up Actos due to swelling in the legs and weight gain. I am
still losing the Actos weight now.

I went on the 5 mcg and switched to the 10 and felt rather ill from it. I
was freezing cold and couldn't seem to get warm. So the Doc put me back on
the 5 for a couple more months, then when I went to the 10 after that, it
was fine. Been on it ever since. The only problem is that you need to be
careful not to over eat when you are on it. That was the only time I
really felt nauseous.

I live in Woodstock NY where there are loads of people who are into natural
medicines and herbs and all of that. Hubby seemed to balk at going on
Januvia, that's why he told him to try the cinnamon first. He said if his
A1C doesn't come up better, by next blood test he'll have to go on meds.

Coincidence is a funny thing. I wrote this a few days ago:

Apart from the French text being a dead giveaway, if you're
going to stalk and attempt to imitate you really should get
the person's name right, "Evenlyn".

Piss off, wanker.

I am glad it works for you. Did you have nausea at first or do you still?
How long have you been on it? If you had nausea how long after first taking
it did it decrease?

I am sorry for all the questions. I tried it and almost died it seemed with
the nausea but would love to try again.

Losing weight like you are means it most likely will stay off. That is a
great thing.

Again keep up the good work and it is very good to see you again.

Diana, I get nauseous very easily too. I started the Byetta slowly. I
started with the 5 mcg pen and only ONCE a day just before dinner, and I
stayed with that for a while. Then I went to twice a day as the doc had
directed, once before breakfast and once before dinner. I stayed with that
for a while and switched to the 10. Immediately I got very nauseous and
was freezing cold all the time. So I went BACK on the 5 mcg, which by
then, I was able to tolerate fine. I stayed with that for two more
months. Then I went to the ten again for the second time, and I have not
had a problem since. But if I really overeat a big meal too fast, I can
expect some gastric discomfort. So I eat slower, I eat less, and I take
my Byetta twice a day, and it is working out fine for almost ten months now.
The good news is showing in my weight loss and better numbers. It
certainly beats the Actos which caused some serious complications for me.

Alan, thanks so much for the link and for what you have written.
Personally I think the doctor just wanted to get my husband to pay attention
to his diet, and to simply become aware that he is flirting with diabetes on
a serious level.... enough to require meds.

I don't think the cinnamon is going to do the trick either, but this morning
I did get hubby to eat less, and he himself commented that he needs to
exercise more. So if change occurs, I won't attribute it to cinnamon, but
to behavioral and dietary changes, all of which are much needed.

I was on the Actos too and it did not work well for me either complication
wise.

I am going to check to see if my second pen that has not been opened is
still good. You and others are having such great luck with it I want to try
again.

Thanks very much for sharing your experience with it.

I too was on the 5mg to start but I think I may have eaten a tad much so
will try again.

Thanks :-) for being an inspiration to me.

You're welcome, and I wish you the best of luck with it. Every time it is
time to eat, I ask myself if I am really all that hungry. If the answer is
"no" I just let it pass. Before the Byetta, I was ALWAYS very hungry, and
it was almost an unnatural kind of hunger, and very compelling. Now I just
don't get crazy hungry, and I am eating just that much less because of it.

The only thing I would say, is to stick with it, don't give up. Even if I
do feel a tiny bit nauseous, it is only a moment, and it passes right away.
Be patient, and hang in there. You can always skip one dose if you feel it
made you feel icky, then go back again. I found that I could tolerate it
better and better as time went on, and it has been a good thing.

Not sure where you live...in the US we get the Cassia. You can go to the
website of the spice companies and they will tell you.

I am in the US, and of course what we get as Cinnamon is Cassia. I am
going to try and find the real cinnamon bark, which, as I understand it, is
the effective one.

Hi Evelyn

Congratulations on such good results. That's great!

Check out NOW brand Cinnamon Bark capsules for your husband. I've been
taking them since dx and it is true Ceylon Cinnamon. I get it at
www.netrition. Their price is much better than our local health food
store.

Best,
Barbara H
