Soy nuts reduce blood pressure and cholesterol
By Anne Harding
Tue May 29, 5:11 PM ET
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - One half of a cup of soy nuts each day may
work as well as anti-hypertension medication to lower blood pressure,
a new study in postmenopausal women demonstrates.
And women with moderately elevated blood pressure -- a condition known
as pre-hypertension -- also showed reductions in their blood pressure
after eight weeks of eating soy nuts, Dr. Francine K. Welty of
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and her
colleagues found.
"We know that people in the pre-hypertension group are at increased
risk of cardiovascular disease," Welty told Reuters Health in an
interview. "This would provide a dietary treatment that could safely
lower blood pressures in that pre-hypertensive range." She pointed out
that while studies are still underway to determine if people with pre-
hypertension should take drugs to lower their blood pressure. |

Kurt, nuts may work on the general population, however, they don't
work on several the experts in this newsgroup. Therefore, I expect we
will see more Kurt bashing soon as a result of your post. Maybe the
fact I posted will eliminate that. |

Thank you. Although if nuts bash in a thread about nuts, that would
be redundant.

Do be careful with soy though. If you have a thyroid problem or think you
might, it's not a good thing for you to have. I ate soy for years thinking
it was good for me. I developed a thyroid problem. Now granted, thyroid
problems do run on both sides of my family. I just didn't know at the time
about the connection of soy to thyroid. If I did I would have avoided it. |

I too am tired of seeing the same half dozen people jumping on just about
every one of Kurt's posts. They may not agree with what he has posted, but
they seem much too eager to belittle the poster and criticize the
information he gives.
Maybe some of what he post is old data to them, but to many of us on this
newsgroup it is new and interesting information. |

It's comical to see the trolls jump on Kurt after he merely PASTES the
ADA tip of the day in this newsgroup. Although he does not author the
tips of the day yet he gets lambasted. Only here. |

Thanks, Freckles. A few people have emailed me personally in response
to the articles I post but it's nice to get support in the wide open
here. Some of the ones that jump on my posts do so just because I
post them and not so much because the information might be redundant.
They are the same ones who say that hundreds, if not thousands, of
newbies lurk here. The information posted may be of value to them
IMO.

Why should anyone bash? Soy products have been long been known to assist in
many health disorders from BP, to cholesterol to womens' menopause symptoms. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
