| | | Starting over today. Wish me luck! Hi all,
Today I am going to start fresh and try from this moment on to only
eat things that I should eat. My daughter offered me a piece of her
Halloween candy and I turned it down. Yes, part of me, like my
tastebuds and stomach are still upset and threatening to leave my
body, but I will survive- I hope! This morning I had Kashi cereal
with soy milk (that took forever to get used to the taste) and will
have scrambled eggs with veggies for lunch. Whew! Two meals down and
a lifetime to go....wish me luck!

Cindy, I too am starting over today. Three months ago I had an
operation and as a side effect lost 25lbs the month
after having it. Oh! if it could have only been 160lbs instead of 25.
Well I am well over it and gained back most of
that 25lbs. Well two good meals today so far. |

Good for you, Cindy!!
Can anyone guide Cindy to some websites full of handy recipes - especially
for those alternative *sweetie* things?
I know we all react differently to different foods, but if Cindy can vary
her diet with exciting alternatives, she will want to keep it up more so! )))) |

Thanks guys! My kids and I just got back from a walk. We ended up
racing to the end of the street and my seven year old kicked my butt.
Geeze, didn't realize I was that out of shape! Definitely a wake up
call for me. I ski every weekend during the winter, so that can be my
other motivation-not sucking on the slopes and being healthy enough to
ski. Oh, for dinner I am going t have a turkey
sandwich...hopefully I won't starve before morning!

You're using Google Groups to access Usenet newsgroups, so, the easiest
thing for you to do to get archival posts is to go to Advanced Search, put
in the newsgroup name and put in a period of time, by dates, to cover a
bunch of time from the past.
Some recipes have been posted here, too.
How are you when it comes to cooking, recipes, etc.?
I've not had any cold cereal since diagnosis. I just learned to think of
breakfast in a different way. <G>
I still drink 1% milk.
It's really more than possible to eat tasty foods.

Not sure that the Kashi cereal and the soy milk are the way to go though.
Those are both carbs. How was your BG after that meal? |
11-04-2007, 05:43 AM
| | | Re: Starting over today. Wish me luck! Well done!
I would reverse the meal order tho..
Eat the eggs first meal and the cereal later.
Kashi spiked me to the roof..so did glucerna the so called diabetic cereal.
I like many here cant eat carbs first meal or i go sky high but can eat them
later in the day once my system has been turned on.
I know its sorta frustrating now but you will learn very fast what you can
and cant eat.
I went through three boxes strips the first month and tested my response to
everything and learned alot.
Now i go through a box in one or two months depending on what i eat and if
im sick or feeling off or trying a new food.
Keep moving forward and congrats on the taking control.

Look, people will laugh here because I was concerned a few weeks ago that my
plugging (insistence) of a certain book will be seen as spamming - but I
assume people know I am the genuine article (a newly diagnosed and proactive
diabetic)so, I am going to suggest this to Cindy.
This book is the one thing assisting me in my diet. I follow the diet plan
and its advice about balancing carbs and proteins. I'VE LEARNT A GREAT DEAL
FROM THIS NEWSGROUP AND THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO FREQUENT IT - so...
although I follow the diet menu in the book, following the advice of said
people, I have still experimented and checked all foods going into my body
and have begun eliminating the ones that spike my bg. But, the diet is
geared towards diabetes and heart disease and I have lost an incredible
amount of weight and my energy levels are up (with the added component of
exercise too <-- most important!).
There's two books - one is the write up and guidelines on glycaemic index
and glycaemic load of foods with the diet plan and the other is a book full
of recipes - with such a varied and tasty mix that it really has helped to
keep me motivated.
So... here goes:
The Greek Doctor's Diet - by Fedon Alexander Lindberg
The Greek Doctor's Diet Cookbook - same author.
Check them out on Amazon, if you wish.
Cindy, at least if you have a couple of books that explain about proteins
and carbs and the healthy options geared towards diabetes, etc - it might
help you a little further into the transistion of eating better in relation
to your condition.
And, if I recall, you like sweet things - so.... the recipe book has some
wonderful tasty amazing sweet things in it!! ))
All I know is - Ive lost weight, my A1c is much lower now than it was 2
months ago, and alot of my original symptoms (itching, chronic tiredness,
depression) have alleviated - I'm assuming my blood fats are on their way
down now (wont know til I get my blood results back next week and in the
forthcoming months) due to following the diet.
Again, exercise has contributed HUGELY to this, too - a complete change of
diet makes all the difference but for added benefits (especially with blood
glucose levels), exercise is the best!
I hope I have helped!! |

LUCK! - But what did the cereal do to your bg? I can't eat it, for
sure! "Things you should eat" are comprised of things that don't blow
your bg... once you're getting normal numbers, you can fine-tune that
for better nutrition, but you need to get below the insulin resistance
threshold first.

If you add chopped nuts to your cereal, you can improve the satisfaction
to carb ratio! |

Lots of good recipes have been posted over the years on
alt.support.diet.low-carb also.
