Default Statin drugs inhibit adrenal function

x-no-archive: yes

Whether in the short term or the long, this is a recipe for damage to
one's immunity and overall health:

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00433823?order=46

Interestingly, pantethine stimulates adrenal function, and has the same
lipid lowering effects as statins without the corollary damage.

This is a trial to see IF statin drugs inhibit adrenal function.

Wouldn't stimulating adrenal function lead to higher bg? That's a question
bc it's not something I know much about...

Never did for me, but I don't think it overstimulates it, though if you
took tons maybe it would.

Also from today's news (Daily News):

Statins May Reduce Risk for Lung Cancer

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/...9999&src=nldne

"May 8, 2007 - Use of statins for more than 6 months reduced the risk for
lung cancer by 55%, according to the results of a case-control study
published in the May issue of Chest.
"Statins are commonly used cholesterol-lowering agents that are noted to
suppress tumor cell growth in several in vitro and animal models," write
Vikas Khurana, MD, from the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center at Louisiana
State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, and colleagues. "To
date, there is no effective chemopreventive agent identified as a means to
reduce the incidence of lung cancer."

The authors studied the association of lung cancer and the use of statins in
483,733 patients from 8 south central states who were enrolled in the
Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System. Using prospectively collected data
from the Veterans Integrated Service Networks 16 VA database from 1998 to
2004, they conducted a retrospective case-control study nested in a cohort
study. The primary variables evaluated were lung cancer and the use of
statins before the diagnosis of lung cancer. Multiple logistic regression
analysis adjusted for covariates, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI),
smoking status, diabetes, and race."

While on the lung cancer theme:

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/555991?src=mp

"Lung Cancer Risk Lower in Diabetics Taking Thiazolidinediones
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 03 - Use of thiazolidinediones (glitazones) is
associated with a reduced risk of lung cancer in diabetic patients,
according to a report in the April 20th issue of the Journal of Clinical
Oncology.

"This is preliminary observational work which is retrospective in nature,"
Dr. Rangaswamy Govindarajan from the University of Arkansas for Medical
Sciences, Little Rock, told Reuters Health. "Physicians should be cautioned
not to start using these agents for cancer prevention."

Dr. Govindarajan and colleagues investigated the effect of
thiazolidinediones on the risk of lung, prostate, and colorectal cancer in
male veterans diabetics aged 40 years and older with diabetes, using a
database covering 10 Veterans Affairs medical centers."
