| | | Stupid, stupid, stupid I got through Thanksgiving just fine. Only a spike to 131 after dinner
which I quickly worked down to 113 by clearing and cleaning after dinner.
Tonight, however, a different story. Between the 'nog (I'm weak! I'm
weak!) and the chips (Really weak!) and a few french fries....
1hr: 160
2hr: 145
3hr: 136
Not my worst fall from grace, but still, not somewhere I really want to
be.
Ah well... it's rare for me so I shouldn't feel too bad... I'm thinking
no pie tonight...

Those numbers are decent and I would not feel down at all. |

| | | Re: Stupid, stupid, stupid But if they can achieve near non diabetic numbers simply by eating a half
slice instead of a whole one why not?
Those numbers are not good compared to a non diabetic which is the goal of
any disease..to not have it impact us or cure it if we can..since we cant
cure diabetes yet we can strive to have it impact us as little as
possible..sitting for hours a day over 130 is not healthy and theres many
studies showing this.
Now theres some who for whatever medical reason cant get thier numbers bllow
certain levels..but the OP is saying his is high because he overindulged
which is NOT a neccessity and IS controlable.
So instead of saying that "fine"..why not encourage them to forget the
mistake and move forward in a healthier way?

Holidays are especially awkward for people - we are so used to bingeing (for
us Brits its Christmas time) but we have to make the change - and as your
numbers tell you (and your own Subject line!) - holiday time aint good.
Krom had it right ya know! Eat what you want but in much smaller portions -
it can work for a lot of us.

| | | Re: Stupid, stupid, stupid I just know how crappy i feel when i over do it..
So i eat the good food but not enought to raise me the point of feeling
bad..same can be said for drinking or exercising or most things we
do...moderation good..overdoign it bad.
But there are some who cant do it at all less they lose control so for some
they cant do sweets in portion so must cut it out..others find
substitutes..we just gotta find what works for us and keeps us healthy.

I am aiming for <140 at 1 hour and <120 at 2+. They are not good
numbers. They're not terrible and I don't worry too much about them. If
I do that once in a great while, it won't be that big of a deal. But I
do not want to fall into the mindset that they are OK and start to slip
and let myself do that more often. The key to discipline is to actually
BE disciplined. If I give myself an out, I WILL take it.

There's recipes around for homemade eggnog, you can Google one. It's
mostly eggs and cream, which are fine diabetic foods.
Just replace the sugar with sweetener-of-your-choice and spike it with a
non-sweet distilled alcohol and it's a "safe" food for your bg.

I make mine with DaVinci Sugar Free Egg Nog flavor with a bit of cream
and water added. It's pretty good, quick and simple. No booze this
year though. :-)

Andy,
You are testing! Tnat is wonderful and a big step toward learning what
you can eat.
I am planning to pig ut on left over turkey all weekend and into next week
when I make my fabulous turkey carcasse soup with tomatos, all kinds of
vegetbles in teh fridge, a big can of tmatoes, left over gravy, some
mildly hot peppers(anchos), a few dried beans, thyme, black pepper, etc.
that will last me for a few more days and should keep my carbs down.
You just keep testing and before long yu may well find that you know what
you can tolerate and don't want to be looking at high numbers so it will
help you control those french fry and chips urges. I just don't keep them
in the house.

True, they are not good, but don't beat yourself up over them.
We all have these times when we '... fall by the wayside..'
but we just work out what is the best way to try to avoid it in future...
Portion control seems to be the way that most ppl go. Try it !
and good luck.
