I was told to take EPO at 2000 mg twice daily.

Valid for me. Can't speak for others.
My dose is 1500mg. During my last trip I found I was in
increasing pain from my wrist while driving the manual car
through Europe. Initially I put it down to the different
arrangement of the controls and gearshift in the
left-hand-drive car but it gradually dawned on me that I had
arthritis.
It got bad enough that I had difficulty carrying bags in
airports and had to be very careful when pulling or pushing
on doors. If my wrist was at the wrong angle or I made
sudden movements the pain was quite sharp and high.
My wife was already taking Glucosamine and a poster here
(JDA or Eskimo Joe) was enthusiastic about the stuff so I
started on it myself when we got home. After three months of
1500mg daily the pain became a memory and now I only get an
occasional twinge.
I'm unsure about the value of my other supplements - but not
about glucosamine.

At the moment I can't give you a good answer. A Google groups search for
quercetin+"Quentin Grady" resulted in 196 threads -

will come on the scene with a quick answer.
On March 4, 2002, Quentin wrote:

Flavonoid intake and risk of chronic diseases -

Knekt P, Kumpulainen J, Jarvinen R, Rissanen H, Heliovaara M, Reunanen

National Public Health Institute, Helsinki, Finland. paul.kn...@ktl.fi
BACKGROUND: Flavonoids are effective antioxidants and may protect
against several chronic diseases.
OBJECTIVE: The association between flavonoid intake and risk of
several chronic diseases was studied.
DESIGN: The total dietary intakes of 10 054 men and women during the
year preceding the baseline examination were determined with a dietary
history method. Flavonoid intakes were estimated, mainly on the basis
of the flavonoid concentrations in Finnish foods. The incident cases
of the diseases considered were identified from different national
public health registers.
RESULTS:
Persons with higher quercetin intakes had lower mortality from
ischemic heart disease. The relative risk (RR) between the highest and
lowest quartiles was 0.79 (95% CI: 0.63, 0.99: P for trend = 0.02).
The incidence of cerebrovascular disease was lower at higher
kaempferol (0.70; 0.56, 0.86; P = 0.003), naringenin (0.79; 0.64,
0.98; P = 0.06), and hesperetin (0.80; 0.64, 0.99; P = 0.008) intakes.
Men with higher quercetin intakes had a lower lung cancer incidence
(0.42; 0.25, 0.72; P = 0.001),
Men with higher myricetin intakes had a lower prostate cancer risk
(0.43; 0.22, 0.86; P = 0.002).
Asthma incidence was lower at higher quercetin (0.76; 0.56, 1.01; P =
0.005), naringenin (0.69; 0.50, 0.94; P = 0.06), and hesperetin (0.64;
0.46, 0.88; P = 0.03) intakes.
A trend toward a reduction in risk of type 2 diabetes was associated
with higher quercetin (0.81; 0.64, 1.02; P = 0.07) and myricetin
(0.79; 0.62, 1.00; P = 0.07) intakes.
CONCLUSION: The risk of some chronic diseases may be lower at higher
dietary flavonoid intakes.

<<snip some good stuff>>
Another facet Quentin turned me on to is the synergy of Quercetin with
Bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapple that helps with muscle
ache. I find when I get achy, two caps, two or three times in 24 hours will
quiet things down for a number of days with no noticeable side effects for
me.
Funny, I never had back pain till Lovastatin, even at max weight over 500
lbs. Now I have almost constant low grade pain even though I've lost a third
of my body mass to date.

No, I was aware of that possibility. I've had the x-rays and
other tests since then; definitely arthritis. It was a dull
throbbing continuing pain which got sharper with sudden or
increased movement. Nor do I have any of the other symptoms
described by others here of carpal tunnel - no finger
movement difficulties, only the wrists. The wrists are still
fully mobile, not like the FS I had a while back.
Also, I don't recall anyone suggesting that glucosamine may
help carpal tunnel. Maybe it does, but I'm not aware of it.

Re: supplements - what do you take?
Piling on...
I take a multi-vitamin (Centrum somethingorother), Omega-3 fish pills
(from Nordic Naturals), and 2grams C (though we ran out so I've not
taken any the past week).
In the winter, I sometimes take Whole Foods' "Wellness Formula" when I
am either beginning to show signs of coming down with something or if I
have been around someone who has something as a temporary boost to the
immune system (I know that taking something like that daily is nearly
useless as your body gets used to it).
I also have been, on and off, doing a cocktail of flax seeds stirred
into 1tbl cranberry juice (pure, not sweetened) in a glass of water. I
forget where I found this one but I've been doing it awhile.

1. Multi-vitamins with anti-oxidents--most everything is 100% DV
2. 600mg Calcium with 200mg Vit D (the multi has 200mg calcium)for
Osteoporosis. I wonder if I need more calcium than one pill. I don't
eat yogurt or milk. What do you think?
3. 1200mg Omega 3 fish oil--I don't care much for fish; but I want the
omega 3.
4. 550 mg Potassium Gluconate--since Metformin and my BP pills get rid
of some of it
5. 250mg Magnesium--my multi has very little and I keep getting
foot/leg cramps.

Yeah, potassium.
If you're not taking anything that contraindicates it, you can get it

Jolanna,
What EXACTLY helps with your cramps ?
Are you convinced of it's 'efficaciousness' ?
I get cramps, at varying times, in my feet, hands and
and my Dr says I should exercise some more.
He used to give me Potasium supplements but says
I don't need them any more.
My cramps say I DO need something.

I had very severe cramps in my feet and/or calves near dawn for many weeks,
plus rare cramps in my hands. I tried magnesium, potassium, calcium in
various mixes, stretching to exhaustion of the stretch reflex, stopping and
starting various supplements. Nada.
What finally worked was extra resistance training at the gym targeted to
those muscles.

For what it's worth....
All the minor aches and pains that I thought were just age....
Casually mentioned during an appointment for other things.
Doc suggested checking Vitamin D levels. They were low.
So I now take 50K units twice a week. I still have the pains,
but far less often.

I'm slowly wandering through the heartscan blog. One of the
things he is very strong on is the relationship between Vit
D deficiency and cardiac problems.
http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/search?q=vitamin+d
I'm not sure that I would need supplementation, living where
I do. However, he is in Milwaukee and notes that almost
every patient he sees is deficient in Vit D.

Frank...off and on for years I have gotten foot and leg cramps after I
go to bed. I would have to get up and stand to make it quit. And
sometimes it was so bad I cried and had to stagger with the cramping
to get Motrin and stay up until it took effect. The motrin did seem to
relax the cramps so I could sleep. They got better when I started
taking all my vitamins and calcium, and then added potassium last
year. But since i added the magnesium a week ago, I have not had any
cramps at all and my sleep is undisturbed. I buy my potassium and
magnesium at Safeway, the Nature Made brand.
Did your doctor take a blood test of your electrolytes? Advancing age,
diabetes, and a lot of other conditions can put the electrolytes out
of balance. I hope you can buy your own supplements without a doctor's
script, like we can here in the US. It won't hurt to try it. If that
is the reason for your cramps. But Statins can cause muscular aches,
maybe even cramps. Are you taking any? I am taking a tiny dose of
Lipitor; but it has no side effects for me.

I just want to mention that I have severe potassium depletion and must
take rx time released supplementation, but my blood tests have never
been below normal.
Sometimes it's in your body, but not enough of it is getting into the cells.

Hmmm. Well, my taking it has nothing to do with cardiac
problems. Due to false alarms (chest pains apparently
related to thyroid levels), I have had just about every
type of cardiac exam there is, and everything is clean.

Uh, why would someone else want to know what supplements I take and
why I take them? The question sounds a bit nosey to me.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.
END THE WAR NOW.
BRING THEM HOME.
Americans killed in the occupation of Iraq as of September 10, 2007 is 3,776.
United Kingdom = 169 Other = 129.
How many more Americans must die to satisfy Bush's ego?
Let us all pray for Bush - God knows he needs it!
As of September, 13 2007 it has been 1597 days since Bush
while standing in front of the banner which was sent
to the ship by the White House saying MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
declared,"In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our
allies have prevailed." IOW MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
Isn't Bush's "surge" of troops working well?
Pay attention to the frequency of American deaths since it began.

Curiosity?
To see if they are taking more than you are? Or less?
To see if they are spending more money than you? Or less?
To see if there is something they maybe should be taking but are not?

Maybe because they might wish to learn from your reasons and
experience?
If I think something's too nosey - I don't bother
resaponding.
